Keyes is a huge underdog, I would love to see him win, I doubt that will happen, but I do believe he will show much stronger than most people think.
I'm sure you will find out tomorrow and if he doesn't break 30% you can rub your hands together with glee and say, "see, I told you so."
It's not a damn horse race. I will vote for Alan Keyes because he is right.
The other option is a socialist baby killer.
Do you think, then, that your church should give up its tax exempt status?
That would be a sweet victory!
Should Keyes lose will he stick around to take on Dickie Durbin?
Keyes obviously will not win. But, my goodness, what passion and vision and courage. I hope he succeeds in planting some seeds of doubt there in the center of the devil's den of liberalism -- seeds that will grow in time. Maybe Keyes is a John the Baptist for some future black leader who will be inspired by the truth of his words. Whatever. His speech is the freshest air I have breathed in this wretched campaign.
Yes.
Couldn't agree more. We never saw the Apostle Paul hold the truth to please the Magistrate. Christ slays with the sword of his mouth. We can't be stifled with our mouths.
The most conservative candidate that my state and yours, Illinois, has ever seen and supposed conservative members of a conservative web site take great delight at his possible upcoming defeat. It positively makes me sick. they should be ashamed but they know no shame.
Jim Rob, who is on record as supporting Alan Keyes is showing, what to me is amazing tolerance in allowing some of them to air their liberal views here and bashing Keyes.
On the other hand they may be expressing their liberalism just to get under the skin of folks like you and me.
(This post is to "EternalVigilance" - I will not respond to any negative posts about Alan Keyes.)
Hate him if you want to - He has my vote.
Alan is staying in Illinois.
He has the good people of this state in his heart, and is deeply offended at the corrupt leaders who have mis-led them for so long. In both parties.
Contrary to the negative spin against the GOP here, the rank and file Republicans are great folks.
They just need new leaders who are capable and honest.
Send mine to FR, too. I read the whole thing, and thought it was a remarkable speech. Then I scrolled down, and saw your post. I don't know why you imply that it would be a major undertaking to read it.
Somebody ping the Clinton-Gore Campaigns on this one...they campaigned at hundreds of churches...they can fill us in on the rules.
Where do you think the term CINO came from? They've always been here.
I hate to break this to you guys, but as much as I believe in the things that Keyes has to say (except for his support for reparations), the primary goal of an election is to win. If you don't win, you've failed in the main mission.
Amen.
Alan has already attracted a large number of young, dynamic black leaders around himself here, just as the conservative black leadership in Washington is in large part associated with him and his people.
It's exciting.
The weird idea that we somehow aren't trying to win is hard to fathom.
The Keyes campaign has done yoeman's work here, with limited resources of time and money, a very hostile press, and a handful of hostile prominent GOP leaders.
No matter the outcome, none of these good people have anything to be ashamed of, nor does Dr. Keyes.
And good fruit will come out of this. Frankly, Illinoisans are finding the grassroots fire and energy of the Keyes people across the state to be remarkable.
Alan Keyes is the man!!! Send my 50 to FR and ty.
He is amazing and I too am suprised that he so many critics here at a conservative web site.
"On the other hand they may be expressing their liberalism just to get under the skin of folks like you and me."
You definately have a point there. Consider this tho...AK isn't in lockstep with the current administration. Any candidate not expressing the exact views of the current administration is immediately labeled as a "traitor" or a "nut". Conservatism, once a hallmark of the republican party, has now become republicism. Much like the democratic party it has become just another "pick and choose" party. Pick the points that will put you in power and forget the rest. Afterall, we'll followup in our second term unless something else more important comes up.
"He has my vote."
Be very proud of that vote.
While I certainly agree with you that Alan is not in lockstep, he has done a remarkably good job of defending the Administration and the President here, without fail.
He's been THE voice in this election cycle in Illinois in defense of the President, in fact.
All of our GOTV calls, and all of our literature dropping materials in the closing days of this campaign, have contained not just a plea to vote for Ambassador Keyes, but a plea to support George W. Bush.
The results of the presidential race in Illinois are going to be quite interesting to see.
But he'll never get in office unless he appeals to the other 49% +1 of the voters. Sorry, that's how representative democracy works.
