Who's the odds-on favorite for Senate minority leader if this comes to pass? Harry Reid?

The problem with Dashcle is not his position on the red-blue spectrum, it is his abuse of the power that he has accumulated. The learned professor has missed this entirely.

Maybe we need to rethink this "Beating Daschle" thing.
Not.
It's amazing how many articles I'm seeing that reference Barry Goldwater, although this one does skip the Republican comeback after his loss in 1964. How close is this election again?

And a Democratic party shorn of Daschles and Gephardts, a party in thrall to its Kerrys and Pelosis, is not a party well-equipped to govern a diverse country
Whatever you say, Professor. Daschle is every bit the loony leftist that Pelosi is, except during those two months every six years when he's campaigning in South Dakota.

Daschle is a resident of Washington, DC. according to the property tax records in the District.
Therefore he is ineligible to run for election from South Dakota.

I didn't even need to read the author' tag at the bottom of the article to figure out this guy's a professor at Harvard. He thinks Americans will more easily accept a liberal Democratic party than a conservative Republican one - a bluer blue than a redder red as he put it. Maybe in Massachusetts. It may come as news to this guy, but Joe Blow American doesn't want socialized medicine, gay marriage, all his guns grabbed, a weak military, and fully funded abortion on demand.

Therefore he is ineligible to run for election from South Dakota. The election laws in South Dakota don't seem to agree with you.

And a Democratic party shorn of Daschles and Gephardts, a party in thrall to its Kerrys and Pelosis, is not a party well-equipped to govern a diverse country. And a Republican party led by Frist and Delay is? Both parties have moved away from the center so regardless of who is in power the opposition party is not going to be inclined to support them. There is nothing new in this.

Sorry, Mr. Stuntz but I did not go to Harvard and therefore I cannot follow your long-winded, sophisticated, and convoluted argument. Silly me, I'll heed your advice and start rooting for Daschle now, in the second most important race of this election.
Brings to memory the old William F. Buckley quote (paraphrased): I'd rather be governed by the first 100 names in the Boston phone book than by the Harvard faculty.

I suppose it is to be taken as a threat that lib/dems might put someone more like their whacky base in leadership? BRING IT ON.
