HONOLULU (AP) - An estimated 7,000 people are jammed into the Hawaii convention center this Halloween night to hear Vice President Dick Cheney speak.

Vice President Cheney landed at Hickam Air Force Base at about 10:20pm Sunday Night.

Cheney and his wife Lynne stepped off their government plane right on time, greeted by Governor Lingle and Lieutenant-Governor Duke Aiona before the quick trip to the convention center.

Across the street from the center about 80 supporters of Senator John Kerry and anti-war protesters staged a peaceful protest before Cheney's arrival.

Some of the protesters were wearing Halloween costumes, but no masks or costumes are being allowed inside the convention center.

Cheney's visit marks the first visit by a candidate on the presidential ticket in more than four decades.

The last was Richard Nixon in 1960 before in his losing campaign against John F. Kennedy.

Aloha Hawaii!

Vice President Cheney's in Hawaii. And it doesn't look like he's wearing some pandering Filipino clothing --- just a normal sportscoat and kakhis.

7,000 show up to hear Chaney and all of 80 people protest-wow.

Now I wonder which is going to get the most press?

That last visit by a Presidential Candidate would be Eisenhower in 1956...it was also the first presidential election for Hawaii since becoming a state. Oh, and one more thing...Hawaii went Republican that year.

dung.

I'm glad he's here. I got the ticket but couldn't make it so I gave to the Vietnamese Restaurant owner who used to be soldier for the South.

My concern: why Swiftboat didn't play Stolen Honor in this military state.

Hawaii didn't become a state until 1959.

Not that I'm aware of. After the polls a week ago, I think they should recognize that HI is in play, and it's particularly due to two groups:

- military

- Filipino. Remember, in the survey couple months ago, the Philippines (together with Poland) voted for Bush. Other countries went Kerry.

No (although Gore's pandering there, too). I was talking about Gore's Hawaiian appearance a few days ago. He looks like a sweaty, pandering fool:

We returned home from the convention center about 12:15 am. Vice President and Mrs Cheney were great!

Mrs. Cheney told how she and her husband met - the jobs 'Dick' had to pay for and save for his college education - Swept floors, dug ditches, was a union member - in other words didn't start at the top.

The Vice President was his wonderful self. He brought down the house with -- You can put lipstick on a pig and it will still be a pig!

The hecklers were their ugly self. I wore my Bush/Cheney t-shirt and had to walk right thru them. They just yelled the same thing with the same pictures. A few had to be escorted from the room.

It is hard for me to say how many, I will agree to the 7000 attending from 9:PM Halloween night until after 12:am monday morning.

They are good people! And I understand how and why they did not want Dick Cheney to run again. Vice President and Mrs. Dich Cheney have character.

Bring it home for KEOKI and I'll bet you dollars to coconuts he'll be visiting your islands next year!!!
