Queen tells Government to pressure US on climate policy

London: The Queen has made a rare intervention in world politics by warning the British Prime Minister, Tony Blair, of her grave concerns over the policy of the United States towards global warming, a newspaper said.

The Observer reported yesterday that the Queen is understood to have asked Mr Blair's office to lobby the US after observing the alarming impact of Britain's changing weather on her estates at Balmoral and Sandringham.

"There has been dialogue between Downing Street and Buckingham Palace on all issues relating to climate change including the US position and the latest science," said one of Britain's leading experts on climate change, who spoke to the newspaper on condition of anonymity. "She is very keen to get involved," he said.

"From her own observations on the climate she has become worried like the rest of us," he was quoted as saying. "She has made it clear she wants to raise the importance of the issue."

The United States, flying in the face of world opinion, said earlier this month it would not follow Russia's lead and ratify the Kyoto protocol on global warming.

Didn't we fight two wars (Revolutionary War and the War of 1812) to keep these people from meddling in our affairs? She's concerned about her estates at Balmoral and Sandringham, is she? Well, I'm concerned about the tens of millions of jobs we'll lose and the depression we will have in this country if Kyoto is implimented. Maybe Kerry or Gore should run for Prime Minister of England, sounds like they'd get along just fine over there!

I just bloody love this. The Black Watch goes into battle yesterday, after Britain standing with America all the way in the war in Iraq and Afghanistan. One article makes people on here unglued and forget the sacrifices the British military have made. I am just grateful cooler heads govern relations at both Downing Street and the White House.

Say, the EU is a disaster. Regain your political sovereignty and join the North Atlantic Free Trade Area with us and the Canucks in the Anglo-spheric economic alliance. Maybe add Australia. I wonder what the British press would think about that.

This whole "Guardian--Operation Clark County" fiasco and watching parliament on C-Span have me disgusted. If Americans tried to influence your vote vis a vis an election or other internal issue, how would you feel? And please don't tell me that Kyoto is not an internal issue. BTW, I think "cooler heads" has been the problem in the past, (i.e., Clinton not capturing OBL when he had a chance prior to 9/11--"what would the world community think", etc, etc..)

As for your proposal, William Hague (former leader of the Conservative Party) once went to Washington to meet with the Republicans to discuss precisely that.

I've given up trying to argue with people like you. If people like yourself ever become a majority in America, then I'd be hard pressed to find a good reason to argue the value of the alliance - 70 British dead in Iraq for example, and yet the slightest thing a stupid newspaper does, the slightest thing some idiots in Parliament say, totally invalidates that sacrifice. It's difficult to argue for an alliance if the people you're acting in aid of are constantly telling you "up yours".

Take a look at my profile; I am a military veteran with over five years defending my country, and my late father was a Marine in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. I said nothing demeaning to our allies in the War on Terror, I am suggesting that your Queen go back to riding her horses and tending to her estates and quit pressuring the PM to lobby Mr. Bush on Kyoto. We don't want our economy shackled by a worthless treaty that no other signatory will actually obey. "Global warming" has not been satisfactorily proved, to my mind, and until it is, drastic measures aren't necessary.

Northern Ireland is not part of internal "British" policies now is it? United Kingdom policies? That is precisely the dispute isn't it.

Plus, to my knowledge we have not lobbied for changes in policies.Maybe yo can correct me. We have offered to act as brokers between Protestant and Catholic factions.If they have lobbied for changes then you have every right to tell them to F off.Just like we should do on this Kyoto business.
