The entire planet wants a weakened United States.

Same as it ever was.

Most of Chinese Christians I have met are pro-Bush and pro-Western civilization. The remnants of Confucianism still infects China. When you layer Confucianism with Atheistic Communism you end up with confused thinking. Confucianism by the way is about the belief in luck and chance. Free will is not seen as being as important as in Judeo/Christian cultures.

"But the troubles and disasters the United States has met do not stem from the threats by others, but from its own cocksureness and arrogance."

This is what they think of the U.S. I think there should be some damage control. Show the world what the U.S has done for peace (ie) WW2,Nazi's rescued the french & Brits and Europe from Hitler etc... Do a Network / online blitz globally and show how the U.S is the worlds greatest friend.

But we have the enemy within. WE need Bush to focus on domestic issues this thime in office while fighting the war on terror. BUsh needs the Dept Of HOmeland to rout-out the weeds within because the "cells" are multiplying for a takeover - "jihad".

Another endorsement for Bush, as far as I'm concerned.

How cool is it that they used the word "cocksureness" in a sentence?

It's simple.

Take a few typical stereotypes and trendy anti US themes and wrap them all together and throw them out to influence the US election.

Strange how those nations would be very quick to point the finger at the US for metteling in their internal affairs yet find it OK to do so with the US.

China.. a friend? As long as it is a communist nation it will never be a friend to the US. We have de-stabilized their country dramatically by forcing democratic reforms they would never have allowed. They TAKE TAKE TAKE from us (as in money money money and jobs jobs jobs) but give back very little. They are a source of cheap labor and not much else. China is working hard to build pipelines with Russia and make deals with Iran for oil as they are sucking up more and more of the stuff. We will have a confrontation with them if we have to go after Iran.

...The ones secretly equipping Syria, Lebanon,Egypt and all those Islamofacist cells in between?

That China also stole our most guarded nuclear secrets from Los Alamos.

Confucianism by the way is about the belief in luck and chance. Free will is not seen as being as important as in Judeo/Christian cultures.

Well, having studied Confucius, I would say this statement is partially correct. It's correct to say that free will is not seen as being as important. However, Confucius believed not so much in luck and chance as in fate and destiny. Any ex-followers you've met who think it's about chance either don't understand his teachings or have been taught by someone who misled them -- both of which are frequent problem for most philosophies.

Confucius emphasized ethics very heavily, and taught that rulers can only be great if they are of exemplary moral code and the highest integrity. Confucius can't be faulted for China's problems; they'd be doing far better than most nations if they'd actually listened to his teachings. An example of Confucius' solid grounding in principle: "Without steadfastness, a gentleman would not command respect, and his learning would not be sound. Advocating loyalty and trustworthiness, he has no friend who is not his equal. He would not hesitate to correct his faults." Quality advice from which any leader could benefit.

I know it's a minor point in the whole thing, but so few westerners understand the eastern philosophies, it sometimes seems that the issue is worth trying to illuminate. Maybe not, though. : )

p.s. - to any closed-minded readers: i'm not a confuciunist, i've just spent many years studying philosophy -- so no self-righteous condemnations in response to this post, please.

And they tell us to "stop interfering in China's internal affairs by selling weapons to Taiwan." Hey Chicoms, stop interfering in our elections by publishing editorials like this and manipulating the oil markets upward. And stop trying to steal American technology to use in your weapons programs. Pull your spies out of our weapons labs and maybe then we'll talk.

This article leaves out that Qian mentioned Mad Maddie Albright by name in a positive light and also Joseph Nye, a "China expert" on the Democrat side in a positive light.

Here is a link to the article now titled "Qian Qichen: US strategy seriously flawed". It has gotten so much attention the ChiComs have modified the article on the site and included a picture of Bush with Qian and changed the title from the orginal which was "Neocon doctrine is wrong" or something to that effect using the term neocon.
