Fred Barnes: They'll Do Anything
The Weekly Standard ^ | 11/01/04 | Fred Barnes

Why Democrats and the media think they're entitled to do whatever it takes to win this election.

THE SCARIEST THING about this election is not the prospect of a contested outcome with no winner declared for weeks, just as in 2000. No, the most scary thing is the sense of entitlement that many Democrats and their allies have about tomorrow's election. It goes like this: Bush stole the presidency four years ago, then proceeded to act as if he had a mandate, so now we're entitled to do whatever it takes to defeat him, to say whatever we want.

You see it in the bumper stickers that call for the "re-defeat" of President Bush. You see it in the destruction of Bush yard signs and posters all across the country. You see it in the harassment, at least in blue states, of anyone wearing a Bush pin or button. You see it in the hatred of Bush by his opponents, who think they're only venting righteous indignation.

You see it in the religious bigotry against the president, a born-again Christian, and against his conservative Christian supporters. Without any evidence, Bush's opponents accuse him of believing that he has a direct line to God and that God gives him instructions, such as when to invade Iraq, and that any criticism of him is illegitimate. You see the bigotry as well in the belittling of Christians who support Bush as if their political views have no standing or worth because they may have been influenced by their religious faith.

You see it in the now exposed plans of Democrats to claim intimidation

of minority voters even if no intimidation actually occurs. You see it in the voter registration efforts by Democrats that have made the number of people on the voting rolls in some jurisdictions larger than the voting age population. You see it in the plans of Democratic lawyers to file lawsuits all over the country, challenging the outcome unless Bush is defeated.

You see that same sense of entitlement in elements of the national media--especially CBS News--who jettison the normal rules of journalism when Bush is the target. CBS not only rushed out with forged documents to torpedo the Bush campaign in September, the network intended to take another bite at Bush two days before the election by airing a dubious story about stolen explosives in Iraq. Would CBS have dared to do this against any other public figure but Bush? No.

And you see it in the victimization that is claimed for John Kerry. The Swift Boat Veterans for Truth? Anything they say about Kerry is automatically a smear and thus doesn't have to be examined or even considered. And Kerry has no obligation to answer questions about his Vietnam experience, though he's played it up in the campaign. Bush's record in the Texas Air National Guard during the Vietnam war, however, is fair game.

And you see the feeling of entitlement in comments by the Democratic candidates and their backers, who seem to feel they're free to say anything they want about Bush and Vice President Cheney. So we get the targeting of Mary Cheney as a lesbian and the criticism of Laura Bush for having worked in jobs that weren't real jobs. And when anyone accuses Democrats of debasing the campaign, the answer is always: it's Bush's fault. Bush is hardly without fault, but the shabby style and substance of this campaign is the fault of his opponents.

Civil War II ping.

The left is pushing us there. They will loose because they are weak. The Founders were very wise men who risked it all for Liberty. Reagan said we would once again have to fight our freedom. The left is without morals. To win by "any means" is their motto. Like minded people who cherish the Constitution and hard work will one day have to unite to defeat the enemy from within. Tuesday will be long day.

So the modern Democrats have decided their justification for enduring widespread vote fraud

They don't look at it as fraud.

Like all Marxists, the US Democratic party believes in the "iron laws of history", one of which is the Brezhnev Doctrine: The Armies of Socialism March in Only One Direction.

From 1932 to 1980, American elections and the Marx-Brezhnev formulation moved in the same direction. The conversion of remaining conservatives in the US was "only a matter of time", so it was only a question of prudence for the RATs how fast to move and how hard to push.

The problem for this claque of vulgar Marxists is that the tide has been running out, not in, since 1980-catastrophically since 1994.

Their hold on the people, their appointment as the revolutionary vanguard, is no longer in the electorate. Since our Constitution and our republican form of government changes things slowly, they are hanging on in the courts and in the academy (which they won in the 1960s, almost fifty years ago now).

They are as scared as Bushmen watching the sun disappear in a solar eclipse. Their false doctrine is teetering on the edge of a precipice.

They are capable of anything.

When you shoot at a vicious animal, don't shoot to wound. The modern Republican party does not understand the rules of the game.

Let's roll, tomorrow and beyond.

Hanoi Communist Jane Fonda Campaigning for Communist John Kerry Update:

To: KwasiOwusu

Have you seen this?

As of Saturday, October 23: I was told this evening by a very high Bush-Cheney National official that Jane Fonda has been calling democratic voters in New Mexico to encourage them to get out and vote for Kerry. She accidentally called a Bush-Cheney campaign aide and was recorded. Her private telephone number is 516-728-1665. I have already called to let her know my feelings about her campaigning for Kerry and her previous actions. I felt it would be nice to post her number here so Vietnam veterans can also call her and express your true feelings about her. Thought she and Kerry barely knew each other? Hmmm.

Thanks for posting this.

One of the MSM's latest and most scary tactic was to ignore the red state voter warning from the latest OBL tape.

Below is Ben Laden's Warning to Red State Voters voting for GW in full format:

Special Alert - No. 14

Osama Bin Laden Tape Threatens U.S. States Not to Vote for Bush
By: Yigal Carmon*

The tape of Osama bin Laden that was aired on Al-Jazeera(1) on Friday, October 29th included a specific threat to "each U.S. state," designed to influence the outcome of the upcoming election against George W. Bush. The U.S. media in general mistranslated the words "ay wilaya" (which means "each U.S. state")(2) to mean a "country" or "nation" other than the U.S., while in fact the threat was directed specifically at each individual U.S. state. This suggests some knowledge by bin Laden of the U.S. electoral college system. In a section of his speech in which he harshly criticized George W. Bush, bin Laden stated: "Any U.S. state that does not toy with our security automatically guarantees its own security."
The Islamist website Al-Qal'a explained what this sentence meant: "This message was a warning to every U.S. state separately. When he [Osama Bin Laden] said, 'Every state will be determining its own security, and will be responsible for its choice,' it means that any U.S. state that will choose to vote for the white thug Bush as president has chosen to fight us, and we will consider it our enemy, and any state that will vote against Bush has chosen to make peace with us, and we will not characterize it as an enemy. By this characterization, Sheikh Osama wants to drive a wedge in the American body, to weaken it, and he wants to divide the American people itself between enemies of Islam and the Muslims, and those who fight for us, so that he doesn't treat all American people as if they're the same. This letter will have great implications inside the American society, part of which are connected to the American elections, and part of which are connected to what will come after the elections."(3)

Another interesting aspect of the speech is the fact that while bin Laden made his specific threat to each U.S. state, he also offered an election deal to the American voters, attempting to influence the election by these means rather than influencing it through terrorist attacks.(4) This peace offer is a theme that follows up on his April speech directed to Europe, in which he offered a truce.(5) The Islamist website Al-Islah explains: "Some people ask 'what's new in this tape?' [The answer is that] this tape is the second of its kind, after the previous tape of the Sheikh [Osama bin Laden], in which he offered a truce to the Europeans a few months ago, and it is a completion of this move, and it brings together the complementary elements of politics and religion, political savvy and force, the sword and justice. The Sheikh reminds the West in this tape of the great Islamic civilization and pure Islamic religion, and of Islamic justice..."(6)

Another conspicuous aspect of the tape is the absence of common Islamist themes that are relevant to the month of Ramadan, which for fundamentalists like bin Laden is the month of Jihad and martyrdom. Noticeably absent from the Al-Jazeera tape was his usual appearance with a weapon, and more importantly the absence of references to Jihad, martyrdom, the Koran, the Hadith (Islamic tradition), Crusaders, Jews, and the legacy of the Prophet Muhammad on the duty to wage Jihad against the infidels. For the followers of the Al-Qa'ida ideology, this speech sends a regressive and defeatist message of surrender, as seen in the move from solely using Jihad warfare to a mixed strategy of threats combined with truce offers and election deals.

The following are the relevant excerpts from the speech; for the full excerpts visit the MEMRI TV Project at www.memritv.org:(7)

"Oh the American people, I address these words to you regarding the optimal manner of avoiding another Manhattan, and regarding the war, its causes, and its consequences. But before this, I say to you: Security is one of the important pillars of human life, and free men do not take their security lightly, contrary to Bush's claim that we hate freedom. Let him explain why we did not attack Sweden, for example. Clearly, those who hate freedom have no pride, unlike the 19 [suicide hijackers of 9/11], may Allah have mercy on them. We have been fighting you because we are free men who do not remain silent in the face of injustice. We want to restore our [Islamic] nation's freedom. Just as you violate our security, we violate yours.

"But I am amazed at you. Although we have entered the fourth year after the events of 9/11, Bush is still practicing distortion and deception against you and he is still concealing the true cause from you. Consequently, the motives for its reoccurrence still exist...

"We had no difficulty dealing with Bush and his administration, because it resembles the regimes in our [Arab] countries, half of which are ruled by the military, and the other half are ruled by the sons of kings and presidents with whom we have had a lot of experience. Among both types, there are many who are known for their conceit, arrogance, greed, and for taking money dishonestly.

"This resemblance began with the visit of Bush Sr. to the region. While some of our people were dazzled by the U.S. and hoped that these visits would influence our countries, it was he who was influenced by these monarchic and military regimes. He envied them for remaining in their positions for decades, while embezzling the nation's public funds with no supervision whatsoever. He bequeathed tyranny and the suppression of liberties to his son and they called it the Patriot Act, under the pretext of the war on terrorism.

"Bush Sr. liked the idea of appointing [his] sons as state governors. Similarly, he did not neglect to import into Florida the expertise in falsifying [elections] from the leaders of this region in order to benefit from it in difficult moments.

"We agreed with the general commander Muhammad Atta, may Allah have mercy on him, that all operations should be carried out within 20 minutes, before Bush and his administration would become aware. We never imagined that the Commander in Chief of the American armed forces would abandon 50,000 of his citizens in the twin towers to face this great horror alone when they needed him most. It seemed to him that a girl's story about her goat and its butting was more important than dealing with planes and their 'butting' into skyscrapers. This allowed us three times the amount of time needed for the operations, Allah be praised.

"Your security is not in the hands of Kerry or Bush or Al-Qa'ida. Your security is in your own hands, and any U.S. state that does not toy with our security automatically guarantees its own security."

I reckon Usama and his dukhai pals will have a long row to hoe in more than a few states. Texas and Wyoming come immediately to mind.

It goes back farther than that. It goes back about 70-80 years ago, starting in the 20's and 30's. The Communists tried to get guys like Patton and MacArthur cashiered back in the 30's. The press and Hollywood back then even backed the Soviets. Do you think it was an accident that the press and Hollywood helped us during WW II? Hell, the Soviets were under attack by Hitler. Notice the sudden change in 1945? Notice the attack of the press during the McCarthy hearings and Korea in the 50's. I remember in the 70's when the news came over the radio, they would always report something from Pravda. I thought back then, why? The biggest threat to the media and the liberals in the last 100 years is the Internet. Fact checking at everyone's fingertips! The average citizen able to read stories from around the globe! No more controlling the news for the masses! Heaven forbid if Congress attempts to control this wonderful mediam.

"I, for one, have no intention of 'uniting' with them should
they win, how about?"

NEVER! And, I despise the unfair mainstream NEWS media even
more than I do the Democrat politicos. To Democrats 'unify'
means to swallow all of their kool-aid.

If the MSnewsM was balanced Bush would poll fifteen points
ahead, at least.
