I consider "Tunnel" to be one of the best, ( it was one of my first.. ) Think "Lord of the Flies" in space..
Farnham's Freehold is decidedly un-PC these days, but makes some good points about how the abuse of power has nothing to do with race..
Another good book(s) is Magic, Inc. and Waldo..
The original name and concept for "waldo's" ( pantographic remote handling devices ) comes from these books.
"Stranger In a Strange Land" is a favorite, as well as "Starship Trooper", "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress", and....
"Methuselah's Children".. ( I actually prefer this to "Time Enough For Love".. )

Hein'ein's short stories are better than most writers novels in terms of ideas. Waldo & Magic Inc is a good combo package; the Fantasies of REH is a fantastic collection.
BTW, before he gots nuts, L. Ron Hubbard wrote a terrific novel called Fear.

Yes, I've got Waldo (in an anthology), and I'd heard that the manipulators used for handling hot-hot radionucleides were called "Waldos" after RAH. He is also credited with inventing the waterbed, and... something else, wasn't there? I can't bring it to mind.
The sexy female robot companion, maybe. Virtual hide-the-salami, as an engineer friend called it.
I think ACC is credited with the invention of the geo-synchronous communications satellite.

(Fortunately, fhe Bill of Rights doesn't include the word 'is'.)
