illion-dollar decisions face California voters this Tuesday. Just how many billions? Unknown.
In a case of the right hand unaware of the left hands actions, residents of one county are clueless to bond and tax initiatives found on the ballot of another. The situation has sent fiscal watchdogs howling for a master list, disclosing all tax propositions (local, state, and federal) to California voters.
The California Taxpayers Association is leading the charge to develop a list of statewide tax hikes.
Using its staff to develop statistics, the taxpayers organization has found at least 171 proposed tax increases among Californias 58 counties.
Larry McCarthy, president of the agency, demands the state make these figures available to all voters.

According to officials with the taxpayers association, voters could unknowingly authorize $10 billion in additional taxes and $8.9 billion in bonds. Some of the tax increases would hike the cost of living for all Californians, said Ron Roach, spokesman for California Taxpayers Association.

On top of close to 50 billion in debt,, what's another 20 billion ;-?
Reno is going to be booming if all of these pass.
Prop 13 requires a 2/3 voter majority for local "special taxes" (not on property). (It also requires 2/3 of the legislature to pass new/higher taxes, among other limitations.) Hopefully, many of the local taxes will fail to get 2/3.
Unfortunately, some propositions are for statewide taxes (and bonds), and I don't recall seeing a 2/3 requirement on those.
