It means that no poll is going to come out with a poll showing Bush well ahead of the margin of error as not to surpress the Democrat turnout." Well he's not "well ahead." And if my candidate was down by 3 or 4 or 5 it would make me even more determined to vote for him. I would think you would have to be losing by quite a bit in order to make your supporters give up and not vote.

Not if you are a Democrat voter, who is less likely then a Republican to vote in the first place.

Not if you are a 18-24 year old (the one age group Kerry is leading Bush in) who sees no reason to waste his time on a candidate who cannot win.

The Democrats need to make their registered voters likely voters and these tie polls give them idea that their vote counts.

If a poll showed Kerry down by 5, many registered voters would not vote, feeling they would not have an effect.

you are thinking like a Republican not a Democrat.

Unless things have changed dramatically during the past 5 minutes, 18-24 year olds are notorious for not showing up!

I've always thought Kerry's lead in this group was illusory.

"you are thinking like a Republican not a Democrat."

I guess so. It would not cross my mind to stay home because my candidate was probably going to lose. You can lose by one or two points or you can get slaughtered by 25 points. I'll gladly cast my vote to avoid the latter.
