How does my XP Home PC keep turning the MSNMessenger box ON in the startup menu at msconfig? I keep turning it off, and it keeps reappearing, along with a message that I changed my configuration? Anyone?

Symantec has a new internet security product with their newest 2005 version. It finally includes spyware and adware. It only had virus checking before.

Well since this has morphed into yet another excellent geek thread maybe y'all could help me out with a little problem I'm having with my XP machine. For some reason my XP system will not maintain a continuous Internet connection.I boot it up go on line and it works fine until I walk away and leave it alone for awhile. When I come back to it and try to go to another web page I get "cannot find server" error messages.Reboot it and its back to normal.I have two older machines running 98se and they do not do this.I'm stumped any ideas?

I use AdAware, SpyBot, and Spy Sweeper. The first 2 are free, and the last is a pay, but worth it. You need all three. Each one gets some stuff off that the others don't. And Spy Sweeper is always active and as I understand it, gets at spyware buried in the registry that the freebies don't always get to. Adaware and SpyBot are ONLY working when you scan. Use all 3 for best results.
I have used Drudge as a home page for years and have never had a problem. Regular and on-going maintenance is the key to trouble-free compooter-motoring . . .

"David Eckstein turned on his computer one day and launched his Web browser, just as he had every day. This time, however, CNN.com did not automatically open. Instead, the page was a search engine he'd never heard of."Sweet Jesus how wrong can ya get.
"Spyware" was not responsible for Mr. Eckstein's switch.
Oh no-no-no.
...Eckstein encountered "Spareware".

Eckstein tried changing the browser settings back to CNN but the search engine would return whenever he rebooted."
Disabling system restore is much more simple than giving up...

I have caught the spyware naupoint. It is a search engine that just so happens to advertise anti- spyware. Isn't that just so convenient!! No one can get this thing off of my computer!!
