AIRING TONIGHT ON 60 MINUTES: IN HARM'S WAY
Even though roadside explosive devices account for half of all the war's U.S. casualties, soldiers are still getting killed and wounded by them because the Pentagon hasn't provided enough fully-armored vehicles to protect them.

The solution would be to have more APCs, Bradleys and Abrams tanks. What is Kerry's funding record for this???
To: freedom4me
I located
this article in Stars in Stripes regarding armoring humvees from January 04.
This jist is upgrade kits were sent then for all the humvees in theatre. Were these kits not effective?
I understand fully armored humvees were just designed and manufacture started this year.
Does CBS want everyone in bradleys?

I cant believe he hasent yet..CBS needs to be slammed and slammed HARD..

We knew this was comming. If CBS could have gotten away with it they would have gone with the munition story. CBS is so damaged, this will have minimal effect. We've been told that the "explosives story" that CBS and the New York Times were working on couldn't "hold" (per 60 Minutes producer Jeff Fagen) so it was decided that the paper would run it last Monday. Nonsense. Both organizations wanted the most bang for their buck-not to mention media coverage-and CBS had no choice. Airing that story on Halloween night when viewership is minimal would have been noticably worthless and without "oomph". That coupled with presenting it just two days before the election would not have allowed enough time for it to circulate sufficiently to make an impact.
The same holds true for this story.

I read the Stars and Stripes article. At the end it said that Congress had approved the $$ to provided the armor upgrade kits. I wonder if Kerry and Edwards voted for or against this, or whether they took the time to vote at all.

Good point..It's true , a lot of people STILL watch 60 min and dont know any better. The hit piece can still have an effect..Not good..How can we alert the public or somehow shove CBS against the wall on this one ?

The only people who believe Dan Rather and 60 Minutes are the loony left crazies at DU and Daily Kos.
Normal people have about as much faith in 60 minutes as in Saddam.
Won't make the slightest difference to Hanoi John Kerry losing on November 2.
Given the choice between the effects of 60 Minutes and the Bin Laden tape, I'd say the Bin Laden take trumps 60 Minutes by about a 100 to 1.
Bush still wins by a landslide. Dan Rather or no Dan Rather.

If this is the best they can do....we win.
I am just curious as to how many people will see right
through this for what it is; a late, lame, attempt to
influence a nat. election by a severely wounded rat/net.
Once again this is a case for the Viking Kittens, more
rats to be sent back into their holes.

"The idea is to hit the Republican candidate with an allegation so close to the election that he doesn't have time to respond"
Won't work.
This is the big difference.
We already had the TANG documents forgery just a couple of months ago.
Dan rather is ZERO credibility right now
Who is going to believe him?
Dan Rather's last attempt at smear with the TNG documents had Bush go UP in the polls.!
The NYT attempt at smear had Bush go UP in the polls.
So will this one.

Regarding the $87 billion supplemental...
Here is the wording of one of the bill's amendments:
S.AMDT.1812 Amendment SA 1812 proposed by Senator Reed.
To increase the amount provided for the Army for procurement of High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles, to require an Army reevaluation of requirements and options for procuring armored security vehicles, and to provide an offset.

IMO, Bush or perhaps Cheney should denounce CBS news as a partisan station that can no longer can be trusted.
