I would rather pay for my medical treatment, many people I know go down to the US for treatment (paying out of their own pockets), NO WAITING LINES.

An acquaintance of my parents, goes to see her doctor on regular visits, a couple of times per week, she is an old lady, after a certain time, the Doctor asks her why does she keep coming in if she is perfectly healthy (Remember it is FREE) the lady answers "Because she is lonely and has no one to talk to" and she still keeps going in!!!

That is abusing the system, and there is much abusing going on when things are FREE, this sort of stuff costs the tax payers billions.

Now, lets examone the Bush medical savings plan. %100 of your money goes into a tax exempt account lowering your tax liability like an IRA, %100 of your money comes back to you in the time of need.

Doctors salaries are effectively capped - I believe they can only bill the provincial government so much in one year.

2 years ago we had a SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) outbreak, killing a few, infecting many, we could barley contain it, I didn't hear of SARS outbreak in the US!!!

Our Hospitals are filthy, full of mildew and mold inside the walls causing Respiratory Disorders. WHAT a MESS!

I understand that not only is the Canadian healthcare system in trouble, the British, French and German systems are headed for insolvency.

My sister lives in Berlin and it IS true. The system there is falling apart. She is due to have her 2nd child in December and has just been informed she will NOT get the "baby money" as she did for her firstborn - because the government cannot afford it anymore...but have their taxes gone down? Oh no...they still pay some ridiculous amount like 50%...

Every year socialist health-care sucks up additional increased funding well in excess of the rate of inflation and yet each year the level of "service" goes further down hill.

Why? Because Canada's public health-care system is now totally politically driven (like an asylum run by the inmates) Rather than going into general patient care, money goes to a host of pet projects for radical special interest groups like gays and feminists and goofy, politically correct items like "native tongue", outreach programs for immigrants. Since everything is "government", there's no check and balance between labor and management so hospital workers' unions treat the system as a massive make-work project while administrators of some major urban hospitals (who are bean-counters - not doctors) are pulling down salaries 3 and 4 times higher than what the damned Prime Minister makes!

This is precisely what Hilary tried for and what America will yet have if it's foolish enough to elect Kerry!

While we were in Canada this past August, I read a newspaper article where Canada is trying to figure out how to get more doctors.

They could take a page from their mother country--conscript them on the high seas. They could board cruise ships and take the doctors off and forcibly repatriate them to Canada. I think it would work. Imagine all the MD's voting for sKerry that won't want to live here after Bush wins on Tuesday. (Or in 6 months whenever all the votes are suppressed counted/recounted/challenged/etc/etc)

They have national health care in Greece and my relatives over there tell us (their words) that we'd have to be out of our minds to want it here. They said that the quality is so terrible that they all pay for private health insurance so they don't have to rely on it. According to them, the only people who use the national system are people who are out of work and have no other choice.

Thank you for your post. I am a physician at a very large clinic in SE MN and you cannot believe some of the stuff that comes out of the Canadian system. People going deep into debt, because they can't get a simple thing like parathyroidectomy done in the face of life threatening calcium levels!

You are right, it is capped, let me explain how it works.

We have a Medicare card that we show the doctor every visit (Like a credit card system) every time we see the Doctor, He/She charges the card (he/she gets paid accordingly by the government). So, the more visits to the Doctor, the faster the doctor reaches the salary cap (I am not sure on the cap number).

My understanding is that most Doctors cap at about the 10 month range, and really have no reason to work for the other 2 months.

Oh, one more thing...If Hitlery gets any input into the US version of "free" healthcare, she will make it a crime to pay for a procedure outside the "system". One exception: abortions would go to the front of the line, because we can't have women getting them in back alleys.
