BUSH HAS THE MO [NRO, "The Corner" - another chat with Bush insider]

BUSH HAS THE MO [KJL]

That's the GOP message tonight as they work to the ends of the continental U.S. and beyond--to Honolulu!! Bush/Cheney is confident this Saturday night. They believe these last days will prove they have made significant inroads throughout the U.S. at the grassroots level. Starting yesterday, 150,000 volunteers are working in the tightest states, contacting 18 million voters to get out the vote for W. They say they’ve registered 3.4 million more Republicans since the last presidential election. That those GOTVers are volunteers, too, they say is significant.

In Florida alone—on Friday alone—GOP officials say volunteers knocked on 170,000 doors and made 200,000 calls. Though E Day they expect those numbers to hit 17,000 volunteers will 800,000 doors and 1.2 million calls. Just in Florida, a state where they’ve been confident for more than a few days now. But it’s not lackluster in Ohio either. GOP officials are saying 14,000 volunteers will knock on 400,000 doors and make 990,000 calls.

I have to say that most of this sounds like selective spin, except for the Kerry leak to the AP reporter (who is also a Democratic hack). I'm not sure what to make of this last item, except that perhaps the Democrats are having trouble motivating their side to vote and is now resorting to fear -- not the first time they ever tried that approach. :)

The Republicans have just as many lawyers. Relax. Look at the crowds W drew today. Go to Powerlineblog. com and see the huge stadium filled for W in Minnesota. Don't listen to the MSM. They are still trying to make it look like the race is close. W is going to win big.

I didn't hear about the incident you described with the Kerry guy demanding the Fox news reporter be thrown off the plane. Please describe the details. Thanks

I saw Cheney on CSPAN in Ohio today. I was mesmerized by the handshaking at the end and the "God bless you!" and "We're praying for you" I could plainly hear.

Was the crowd pumped?

Yes, they were!

Mark Shields said Kerry will carry FL though because the Dems have 250,000 volunteers getting the vote out. I wonder if that number is really accurate. Sounds like too huge of a number.

Headlines "should" say--

"AMERICAN'S SEND CLEAR AND DECISIVE MESSAGE TO TERRORISTS! YOU WILL NOT WIN--IN BUSH WE TRUST!"

I remember how comfortable folks were before 2000. I think a lot of us do. Then during election day interviews, suddenly the pollsters who had been so confident about a Bush lead started hedging big time and making any kind of Bush win sound like a miracle. I hope we aren't seeing some kind of weird replay.

I remember being somewhat confident until the DUI thing broke and virtually all of the polls except Rasmussen showed a Gore surge at the end. I also remember the state by state maps showing a much closer race than the national polls even before the DUI thing broke, and this fact also had me on edge. This year, the EC map has been better for Bush most of the year. Unquestionably he is in much better shape to win this time, but it all comes down to improving their GOTV operation from four years ago. Given how bad it was, this will be easy, and they have already invested millions of dollars and hundreds of thousands of volunteers into the effort. So, I am cautiously optimistic, and even beginning to see signs that Bush may win by more than the 5-6 points that I currently think he will win by.

I know a Freeper in Florida who worked a phonebank today and the guy in charge told them how proud he was they were all local volunteers as the dems had to bus in people to make their calls.

Shields is full of qaqaa.

Compare that GOP confidence to the Kerry campaing insider's "leak" to an AP reporter today (Ron Fornier) saying their internal polls showed a Bush lead and a general momentum in Bush's direction. Why would a campaign operative leak such a story?

This is all psy-ops. Carville releases polls saying Kerry is in great shape, Bush campaign blows smoke up the ass of the NRO.

I have no answer for the AP story today. I found it odd. Why would a Dem insider say Bush had the mo? Maybe that 'insider' is named Hillary?

The messages and signals coming out of the two campaigns could NOT be more different this last weekend. Kerry's big mo guy, Sasso, blows up at Fox News last night and demands the Fox reporter be thrown off the campaign plane. All over some inane remark made by Neil Cavuto! Does that sound like a "happy" campaign?

What happened? I watch Fox 24/7 and I missed this? Was it Carl Cameron they wanted thrown off? OMG...please tell me what happened.

I'm sitting here in the battleground State of Hawaii and have been honored with phone calls from Cheney(pushing the 2nd CD pubbie challenger),Guliani(Bush on his response to 9/11) and, today McCain (war on terrorism vis a vis Iraq).

Although they're preaching to the choir in our household, it represents a very pro-active and coordinated GOTV program in full swing.

Really, I do not know why republicans and/or libertarians subject themselves to CNN taking head shows like the "Capital Gang".

I also remember that in 2000 GW was a relative 'unknown' quantity.....he had support but he didn't have the love and gratitude he has this time around for carrying us through some of the darkest days we've ever seen. Sure, in 2000, people wanted him to win - but they didn't feel their life depended on it. This time around....I feel my life depends on it.

My 16 year old and his cousin went to volunteer at the GOP headquarters today.

The place was so packed that they didn't have anything for them to do, much less the room for them to fit in the headquarters, so they sent them out with signs to put up around town (most of Bush signs have been stolen, and the headquarters had been out, but now had a new supply...my new sign is in our front yard, smeared with vaseline, LOL).

I think the big story is going to be women with children, (1) the ones who don't want their families to be blown up or taken hostage Beslan style, (2) the ones who were insulted by Teraza's comment that they don't have real jobs, and (3) the ones who were deeply offended, as mothers, by the gratuitous comments about Mary Cheney. If any one demographic has shifted decisively from Gore to Bush over the last four years, it's this one.

Is there a groundswell for Bush running beneath the radar of national polls?

Yes.

" Rove is, and has been, totally on top of this."

I'm real glad to read this, LS. My primary concern has been out-of-control electoral fraud. I know the campaign can't say much about this before the fact, but I have been nervous that they may actually think the 'rats will largely live within the law.

They sure ought to know better, and I'm glad to hear they do.

In 2000, Bush internals looked so good the last week, he actually stopped campaigning.

Not completely. And let's note that some GOP strategists have estimated that the Florida Panhandle would have turned out 50,000 votes for Bush if not for the "early call" debacle. I think that's high, so let's say they're off by 80%...that would mean a Florida win by about 10,500 points.

If his internals were telling him that, the only reason they were off is because the media screwed up.
