BUSH HAS THE MO [NRO, "The Corner" - another chat with Bush insider]
The Corner at NRO ^ | 10/30/04 | Katherine Jean Lopez

BUSH HAS THE MO [KJL]

That's the GOP message tonight as they work to the ends of the continental U.S. and beyond--to Honolulu!! Bush/Cheney is confident this Saturday night. They believe these last days will prove they have made significant inroads throughout the U.S. at the grassroots level. Starting yesterday, 150,000 volunteers are working in the tightest states, contacting 18 million voters to get out the vote for W. They say they’ve registered 3.4 million more Republicans since the last presidential election. That those GOTVers are volunteers, too, they say is significant.

In Florida alone—on Friday alone—GOP officials say volunteers knocked on 170,000 doors and made 200,000 calls. Though E Day they expect those numbers to hit 17,000 volunteers will 800,000 doors and 1.2 million calls. Just in Florida, a state where they’ve been confident for more than a few days now. But it’s not lackluster in Ohio either. GOP officials are saying 14,000 volunteers will knock on 400,000 doors and make 990,000 calls.

I'd be LMAO at that . . . but I wouldn't put it past either of them if Kerry got elected.

***They will say that Karl Rove arranged for Bin Ladin to make the tape. Heck, Walter Cronkite is already saying that now.***

I suppose that means BinLaden engineered the flu shot shortage, too, right? LOL!

Hi,

I sure hope it is truely reflective of events to come.

I would think that the early voting would favor republicans and would consist of those men and women who travel a lot for their jobs and will not be here to vote.

In WI, we have Secretary Thompson, our former Governor, stumping non-stop with candidates for State legislature and the House. Last week, they all stumped w/Dubyah in his rally/motorcade tour of SW WI. Tim Michels is campaigning separately w/surrogates in different parts of the state.

Volunteers are crispy, but enthused and we have fresh staff here from DC tightening up our 72 Hr push. We have fresh and eager young volunteers who LOVE the President. Last Tuesday, van loads of them got up at 5 am for an early rally in Onalaska, WI and then drove the back roads to get to the motorcade route in time to wave.

They have had to keep printing signs. They are so new, you can still smell the fixative and ink. These are not all replacements, either. I had folks taking signs tonight and the last 2 will go across the road on a piece of our property. I already have 2 groupings of multiple signs on this side.

It is the mark of a good volunteer organization that they found jobs for the eager kids instead of making them feel unwanted.

There is exhausted joy in the volunteer effort that is palpable. People are running on nerves, adrenaline, love and prayer. It is wonderful!

Polls are so unpredictable. In 1980 Reagan and Carter were essentially tied going into the final weekend before the undecideds broke heavily towards Reagan in the end and he won in a landslide. The pundits were talking about a nailbiter of an election in that year too.

AFAIK, the campaign has been on top of the fraud for months. I know they have been cross-checking absentee ballots and arranging lawyers to cover the various polling places for 6 weeks or so. The plans were obviously made much, much earlier.

As an aside, I take it as a sign of supreme confidence that the FBI is investigating the NAACP for illegal campaigning and use of funds for political purposes on the eve of the election. Since I don't think they are at all stupid, this just emphasizes to me that our internal polls show a bigger win than the public polls. The DC staffer who is shaping us up in SW WI said he doesn't just want to win, he wants to WIN!

No one under 35 knows who Uncle Walter is. No one under 50 really cares. Those of us who do are furious that he snookered us for all those years.

He's only planning that in places where it is tight or if he comes within 1 EV or so of winning. Otherwise, no lawyer will touch it and he will have to concede, graciously or not.

This will limit the lawyers to a few counties, here and there, IMO.

My uncle in Hampton Roads, Virginia e-mailed me today with some pictures and a little bit of news on their end. He told me that both him and his wife and their 3 daugters and husbands and their 9 grandkids were all pounding pavement for the last couple days converting Democrats to vote for Bush. They even formed a neighborhood coalition of Bush supporters waving Bush/Cheney signs along a busy stretch of I-64 on Friday morning for several hours. Many folks who drove by honked their horns in support of Bush/Cheney.

I'm concerned about voter fraud, too...

But let's get down to the REAL issues, here:

To those of you who expressed an interest in the AP "bomblet" yesterday about Kerry's internal polls showing Bush with momentum AND about the Fox reporter being kicked off Kerry's plane....check out this article in today's Boston Globe.

Looks to me like Kerry's press pool is breaking out...

Angry over on-air remark, adviser threatens a ban

Boston Globe, Patrick Healy

SNIPS:

Kerry advisers quickly backtracked, however, concluding that an escalating conflict with a major cable channel just days before the election would do nothing to help the Democratic nominee...

The furor was a rare moment of visible frustration inside the Kerry camp: Kicking a major cable outlet off of the candidate's plane would almost certainly spark a run of negative stories in the media about Kerry lieutenants lashing out and their preelection confidence vanishing....

The episode was a relatively rare flash of tensions between a presidential campaign and the media this year.

I don't believe such a story would be written by a pool reporter on the winning plane. These are all signals about a campaign that knows it's losing.

At the Bush rally on Thurs, high school kids were still signing up volunteers for the 72-hour program, not letting anyone "sit this one out." There were kids there from MIAMI (OH, not FL)

Remember Rove was also confident 2 days before the election in 2000 and you saw what happened. This could be good news for the GOP because there is no way Rove would let insiders say this a second time around if they were not completely confident. We could be seeing a landslide in the making.

She told me her callers said the U's were breaking six-to-one in favor of Bush.

This uncovers this campaign's biggest lie: that Kerry won the debates. The first debate was a draw and Bush wiped him out in the next two.

I heard that President Bush met privately with some Amish people a few weeks ago. Is that true?

Don't know, but that sounds logical because I saw pretty many of them at the Hershey Sports Stadium and massive amounts of them a Lancaster the following week.

He probably invited them on a personal basis. Sounds logical to me.
