Sad to say, both my wife and I are alumni of Fort Lewis (or "Fruit Loops U" as we fondly called it). I can easily believe this happened in Durango. When we both graduated from there in the 80's it was already becoming a bastion of political correctness run amok. The school teams used to be called The Raiders and had a mounted cavalry soildier with raised saber as it's mascot. Apparently, some whiney, liberal trust-funder types (trustafarians) decided that this was too offensive to all the Native American students going to school there (tuition free). They surveyed the alumni about changing the mascot, and although the alumni voted overwhelmingly to leave it alone, they changed it to the "Skyhawks". Now they're named after a Buick!!
Mrs. Pablo64 and I will never be Skyhawks. We will always be Raiders! I'm just glad we got out of there when we did.
