Just curious, but is there a way for a person to know if their vote was counted properly?

I sent my and my wife's ballots (for W) a week ago, but I noticed that there was a serial number assigned to the ballot. I wrote this number down and am wondering if it is possible to check the status of it. I voted in Wake County, NC, but I couldn't find any info on the Board of Elections website.

If this were truly a "secret" ballot, why would a number be on it?

Legally, only your specific votes are "secret" when you use mail-in ballots. As a fraud deterrent, all mail-in absentee ballots are numbered and registered so the elections dept can document that no more mail-in ballots are received for an election than the number requested and sent.

The results of your ballot are secret, AFAIK, the fact you voted is not.

Try calling your town/city hall. They will be able to point you to the election board if you have any questions.
