raid, according to merriam-webster (http://www.m-w.com)--

1 a : a hostile or predatory incursion b : a surprise attack by a small force

Sounds right to me.

Voting for Kerry because of his vocabulary?

Stupid word games(POLITICS). De valuating Sept.11 to a police action on a bordello is dishonest, disgraceful, and dishonorable, and should be met with righteous indignation and condemnation. To do less is to condone and encourage more selfserving verbal raids.

Any way you slice it, it was an act of war.

Where's the mass murder in this description?

Technically speaking, Kerry is not correct. According to FM 7-8, the Light Infantry Platoon and Squad, "a raid is a combat operation to attack a position or installation followed by a planned withdrawal." The 9-11 attackers didn't have a withdrawal plan.

< /nitpick> :)

Disagree, for two reasons. First, "raid" commonly connotes something other than a catastrophic mass murder (e.g., gambling den raid).

Second, and more important, his use of the term illustrates his law-enforcement focus -- i.e., according to Kerry, we're not in an ongoing WAR for our survival...we're just looking to punish the people behind a single "raid."

Raid by definition is also something that causes only a small damage. This is implied in the defition.

Apparently Kerry thinks that the mass murder of 3000 Americans is just a small, insignificant event.
