sent this to sully, some bloggers and a few media types:
Andrew Sullivan,
You wrote: I have a feeling that this will tip the election decisively toward the incumbent. A few hours ago, I thought Kerry was headed for victory. Now I think the opposite. I also have a sinking feeling that that was entirely bin Laden's objective. No you dont.
Of course, Bill OReilly (or perhaps Scarborough, but in any event a talking head predisposed to support Bush but wishing to appear evenhanded) offered this same take. Propounding such a theory could in some cases be an attempt to appear savvy but for others it is a calculated effort to suggest that a vote for Kerry is to deny bin Ladens objective.
It is clear from Bin Laden and Saddams candid admissions during the Bush term that, after decades of counterexample, terrorists will need to be taught again and again that Americans can be resolute. Bush has prevented in the U.S. the means by which Bin Laden achieved victory in Spain. Usama must now resort to the Hail Mary of regurgitating the arguments with which Michael Moore has stirred the self-loathing of half our population. Bin Laden senses our weakness but exploits it as clumsily as ever.
It is you Kerry supporters who are too clever in assailing our wartime President and whose real aims must be exposed.
Bush is a leader - pure and simple.
