The most unsettling danger is that post-election combat by party warlords will become a permanent part of the political process. Curtis Gans, the director of the committee for the Study of the American Electorate, expects between 118 million and 121 million Americans to vote next week, up sharply from the 105 million who voted in 2000. The larger figure would represent a turnout of 60 percent of eligible voters, the highest since 1968, and is just one indicator of the passions aroused by this campaign. But regardless of turnout and your preferred candidate, we all ought to hope for this outcome: the victor wins by a big enough margin to avoid an aftershock of contested ballots, lawsuits and court decisions.

Well in 2000 we got President Bush - Then the Repubs. took over the Senate - So - with even more citizens coming out this year -
Stands to reason what is coming -
...after today's events, I may adjust those predictions upward.
The story calling it intimidation tactics and there is no rebuttal. NONE.
Not a single mention of the effort being used to verify legal votes and prevent fraud. It is simply called legal intimidation!
I am right in there with your totals. That is the way I see it.
I could care less as long as we win.
PBS (The News Hour) did a good job tonight presenting both sides. Of course, only one side makes sense.
I don't have cable, and I won't watch the others, but I do think PBS gives both sides of most issues. I've heard people complain about The News Hour and Jim Lehrer, but the coverage is fair, in my opinion, although tonight I could have sworn I heard Jim say "President Kerry" when he made his closing comment. But he mumbles sometimes, so maybe I heard wrong (I heard it, and was doing something else). But I can forgive him, because perhaps he likes Kerry. I haven't seen bias from him, in spite of what people say his political preferences are.
If CNN's so bad, why do people watch it?
"......danger is that post-election combat by party warlords"
My God, now we have "warlords" running around in America just like Afghanistan. These SOB media drivel haven't got one ounce of decency. They plain suck.
I usually do not watch CNN or PMSNBC, except to see reactions to events.
I was perusing CNN to access democrat adviser reaction to the bin laden tape.
I have the channel deleted from the memory, as well as other and I have to punch the numbers so I do not accidentally land on them.
If Kerry's so bad, why do 50% of Americans hate him?
Or love him, as the case may be.
I believe we will win by a 5 percent margin...I really hope this happens because we all know the aftermath is going to be ugly if it is any closer.
p.s. It will still probably be ugly anyway.
Here's Walter Cronkite's fascinating take on it, for Larry King:
KING: A huge turnout?CRONKITE: Oh, yes, I do. I think so. The only thing that could damage the turnout would be the threats that might be implied, as many of the new registrees are challenged as to their various things. Their spelling of their name and the state where they really come from, whether they're immigrants or not, do they have passports, all that kind of thing. If they are challenged at the polls, as they line up to go into the polls, they may fear having to answer all those questions. Particularly if they do have anything wrong about them and shouldn't vote.
