Bush Stops Using Orleans' 'Still The One'
Billboard ^ | October 29, 2004

The Bush campaign abruptly stopped using the 1970s hit "Still the One" at campaign rallies today (Oct. 29) after the songwriter, no fan of the president, claimed the Republicans never got permission.

John Hall, a former Democratic county legislator in upstate New York, co-wrote "Still the One" and recorded it with his band Orleans in 1976. He complained today about the campaign playing the song at the president's events.

I liked Bush's theme in 2000 better, anyway -- "Taking Care Of Business". Even more appropriate this time around!

He should use Ted Nugent's "Stranglehold." That would put girlie man Springsteen in his place.

He should go with Proud To Be An American, the best song out there IMO.

I'm not an entertainment attorney, but I believe that the doctrine of compulsory licensing does not give the copyright owner the right to prevent performance of a composition. They merely get their ASCAP royalties.

I think that Bush stopped it just to be nice.

these ole "nobody anymore" performers are making their world mighty small......I will never pay to watch, listen too, etc.. for ANY Hollyweird /Rock N Roll whatever person that has come out during this election against our President...
These performers act as if there isnt "US" out here ... I hope every single one, ALL OF THEM, suffer, lose their money and die in poverty ...
Im bad tonight in my feelings, but they are SO BAD to a GOOD and KIND MAN who is our President......

Probably because he will be able to continue his use of...Hail To The Chief!

That's a great suggestion!
And for an encore, Ted could use a flaming arrow to shoot an apple off Springsteen's head.

I don't know about Bush (although I dig the Stranglehold suggestion by the Nuge!)

BUT, it seems to me that Mr. Sensitive Kerry should be using the worst song the Stones ever recorded" Emotional Rescue".

I brought some anti-Bush rock CDs from my collection (bands like Green Day) recently to a used CD store and happily turned the cash into a very pleasant dinner at a restaurant owned by avid Bush supporters.

He should use the Dixie Chicks just to piss em off. That would send them into a huge hissy fit.

Conservative music artists just aren't obnoxious and thus don't get noticed as much. Tuesday night the World Series game 3, Martina McBride sang the Star Spangled Banner and Amy Grant sang God Bless America. Both are Republican babes.

I watched Dennis Miller's show last night and he had Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins on as a guest. The conversation began with Miller asking about Corgan's political opinion. Corgan said he wasn't going to vote in this election (good, if he is a Kerry supporter) then stumbled, fumbled and stuttered in his speech when Miller tried to continue the topic. To his credit Corgan said he didn't feel comfortable talking about the issue even though he had strong beliefs. At least he wasn't one of these loud mouths who criticize at any opportunity.
