"Is a "general" discharge also considered an "other than honorable" discharge ??" I think a general discharge under honorable conditions can be issued. If the discharge was less than honorable conditions, that's pretty bad. Chances are whatever his first discharge really was, it didn't tell the whole story and was probably more generous than it should have been.

a general discharge under honorable conditions can be issued 1. Honorable.
2. General under honorable conditions (medical, family need, etc,) 3. Other than Honorable. (you did something nasty but we're not sure our lawyers can put you away----this was for AWOLS and druggies, but not dealers)
4. Bad Conduct Discharge (habitual barroom brawlers and troublemakers)
5. Dishonorable: for convicted criminals on major felony charges.
----Medic, 3rd Med Bn, 3rd ID, 1971-1973 (I saw lots of OTH given to drug addicts, but quite a few also got General UHC by claiming psychological problems)
