Damnit, Kerry did NOT receive a "dishonorable discharge." He got an "other-than-honorable discharge." The two are different, like the difference between a misdemeanor and a felony.

We used to call the OTH an "administrative BCD." The Bad Conduct Discharge may be awarded to enlisted personnel at Special or General Court Martial. And, yes, conviction by SPCM or GCM is the equivalent of a felony.

And, one more thing, we don't know that he got an OTH. I still believe that this story may be the equivalent of LT Bush "deserting."

An OTHD is a very big deal, I have an Honorable Discharge and its a real big deal to me and everyone else that has it.

It should also be noted that not too many guys that have honorable discharges have labeled themselves as hero's as Kerry has, now if he turns out to have received anything but an HD he is a liar and a fake and maybe in the eyes of the Armed Services a traitor.

Actually, the difference between an OTH discharge and a Dishonorable is more like the difference between a felony and a CAPITAL felony! Either are poison to living happily ever after.

Those that have been following the whole military record issue of Kerry are pretty much convinced this had to be the case (too many consistent points to list). The thing to watch now is how the MSM handles this. Look for "Nixon Whitehouse Vendetta", the tried-and-true “many VN vets received less than honorable discharges” and Krugman, Dowd, Oliphant, O’Donnell, CBS, NPR, et al to begin wailing about Bush’s TANG records. If this is “real” it’s positively delicious.

The point is that neither are an Honorable Discharge. It is not even a General under Honorable conditions. It is less than Honorable, just like Kerry.

The difference between a misdemeanor and a felony is only a matter of severity of the crime committed. Both are still crimes. I had heard that the order not to court-martial Kerry came directly from Nixon, which amounts to preferential treatment so that he NOT get a dishonorable discharge. Now what was it they were saying about Bush getting into the Guard?......
