Pentagon says U-S military likely destroyed some ammunition from al-Qaqaa Updated: 10-29-2004 12:13:38 PM
PENTAGON (AP) - Pentagon officials say the U-S military destroyed "the types of ammunition" T-V reports suggest were looted from an Iraqi military site.
A military officer who led a unit charged with disposing of dangerous ammunition says he took material from the al-Qaqaa (al-KAH'-kah) site.
At a news conference, Pentagon spokesman Lawrence Di Rita said the material taken by the disposal team included "a lot of plastic explosives."
Di Rita says the facts of the missing explosives are still unclear. But, he says "the types of ammunition" seen on T-V reports about the missing explosives were among those destroyed.
Major Austin Pearson says his mission was to dispose of ammunition that could be dangerous to U-S forces in Iraq.
Pearson says he took up to 250 tons of material from the site, but he's not sure if it's the same explosives reported missing. Pearson also says he didn't see any seals from the International Atomic Energy Agency on the material taken from the site.

This story is enough to make the American people doubt what Kerry has been saying.
I would like to see W come out and say: "Senators Kerry and Edwards and their operatives owe our military an apology for jumping to conclusions and besmirching them, again."
Exactly. Lurch and his flying monkeys in the media have spent the last week foaming at the mouth over this story, and now it's shown to be a tissue of lies cooked up by the UN.
Yep. The RNC should make its own ad over this latest Kerry lie.
I saw that Kerry was pulling the ad about this. If so, it will be a good talking point for the GOP this Sunday and on radio.
