CA: Democrats preserving leads in top races in state

Democrats are maintaining their grip on the top of the ticket races in California in the final days of the election campaign. U.S. Sen. John Kerry has a seven-point lead over President Bush, and U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer is dominating Republican challenger Bill Jones, according to the last statewide Field Poll on the contests before Tuesday.

In the presidential race, Kerry leads Bush by 49 percent to 42 percent among likely voters, and has maintained a consistent distance in the competition for California's 55 electoral votes. But support for Bush in the inland valleys has prevented the blowout some expected in a state where Democrat Al Gore won by 12 points four years ago.

"To most observers nationally and even to some here in the state, these numbers would be somewhat surprising," said survey Director Mark DiCamillo. "They show Bush a little closer to Kerry in this state than what many might have assumed."

The findings match the president's popularity among rural voters in other parts of the country, DiCamillo said.

LOL... aRnold doesnt want to upset the democrats tho.

But he sure has the Indians on the run! ;-)

And his lack of support in this state for President Bush speaks to his own aspirations and socialist elite / GReen agenda.

I'm curious why Bill Jones hasn't attracted the same kind of derision that some here direct towards other, more conservative republicans who've been way behind in the polls. Alan Keyes comes to mind.

I guess I know why, but would still like to see what others think.

You know this 7% lead was a reflection of the populus BEFORE the Soldier came forward to say his troops destroyed the weapons and explosions in question missing from Al-QaQa.

Then bin laden appears which I believe just reinforces terror is the single most and only real issue of this election. Bush leads heavily on the issue of Terror. I think it is a slight possibility that Bush could defeat Kerry in California with no trip..no extra campaign dollars etc...

If this is the case in California--then Ohio, Florida, Wisconsin, Iowa, MN surely will go for Bush as well as PA, NJ etc...
