"This should have been done Monday morning."
Now, I do not know if there was a plan by the Bushies or not, but I would argue that by letting Kerry "have enough rope to hang himself," they might have turned this into a big negative issue for Kerry on the last weekend of the campaign. Kerry really went off on Bush about this, and if it is now shown that the explosives were:
1. Partly removed by Saddam prior to the war (UN docs and satellite pictures), and;
2. The remainder destroyed by our troops,
Kerry will look extremely incompetent. I mean, Kerry has been on the intelligence committee for how many years? And he doesn't know you need to confirm your intelligence before acting? Bush acted on 13 years of intelligence on Saddam's WMDs - so much intelligence that even Kerry and the UN believed Saddam still had WMD stockpiles - and even that well-cooroborated intelligence was apparently faulty. Now Kerry takes one second hand, pass-the-buck letter from his buddies at the UN and goes after Bush. In four days we have shown his intelligence was crap. It took a year and a half to decide Saddam probably did not have WMDs! Which candidate acts cavalierly on poor intelligence now? Kerry just proved, on the week before the election with the climax coming on the weekend, that he is not to be trusted with foreign policy. I would argue that, even if this should have been found Monday, it has been released at just the right time.

OK.
But (by doing this, releasing the 200 tons blown up story today) hasn't the Bush campaign "blunted" any possible "October surprise" by the democrats?
In other words ... It's now midday Friday, on the weekend before election.
The democrats CAN'T find and publish and promote ANOTHER story (other than the bogus "missing/not missing/not present/present/controlled by UN/not controlled by UN" explosives) in time to get enough attention this weekend!
