BOSTON Newly minted World Series hero Curt Schilling canceled a scheduled campaign appearance with President Bush on Friday, saying his doctors advised him not to travel because of his injured ankle.
An e-mailer identifying himself as the Boston Red Sox pitcher posted a message on the bostondirtdogs.com Web site saying, "I am now not medically cleared to do anything until I see Doc on Sunday, so I cannot travel with President Bush."
Schilling, who has been known to contribute frequently to online fan forums, did not immediately return a call from The Associated Press on Friday.
The pitcher endorsed Bush in an interview on ABC's "Good Morning America" Thursday, a day after the Red Sox won the franchise's first World Series championship in 86 years.
In his e-mail, Schilling said he should have kept his opinion to himself.
"While I am a Bush supporter, and I did vote for him with an absentee ballot, speaking as I did the other day was wrong. While I hope to see him re-elected, it's not my place, nor the time for me to offer up my political opinions unsolicited," he said.
Schilling turned in one of the most memorable performances in postseason history this year, winning Game 2 of the World Series and Game 6 of the American League Championship Series with his ankle sutured to protect a torn sheath around his Achilles' tendon.
That's what I wondered when I first heard this. Sounds to me like someone suggested that if he wanted to work in baseball, he'd better get in line. But then, I tend to be suspicious of things like this.
Stinkin' DUmbA$$e$!!
One of the most powerful unions in the world.
He can come work for the REPUBLICAN Cardinals Baseball Team. (owners are pubbies).
And here is a list of BoSox that have supported sKerry:
You had a winner during the World Series, now you'll have a winner On Nov. 2.

My comments:
Everybody around here knows what happened. I bet he was threatened by the corrupt political machine. He was told that he would find himself being pulled over. His house left unprotected by the police. His children harassed at school. His trash pickup service interrupted. His tax payments lost. His application for building permits denied, etc., etc. Many of us have seen it before. That is why you have to have a lot of guts to register as Republican in this State.
This is how a small number of people control a much larger population - just like how prison guards control prisoners. This is why there is only 1 party in this state and how people like Kerry and Kennedy get re-elected.
This is going to backfire on the RATS though. Everybody knows what happened and it makes them hate the RATS even more!
Nasty Boston Politics...slapped him down.
Last night, when Bush had a rally in Bucks County, PA, he was introduced by Phila. Eagle tight end Chad Lewis.
On the Philly 11PM NBC news, they had sports reporter and former player Via Sikahema (who I've heard say "I'm to the right of Rush Limbaugh") had Lewis, and Eagles Corey Simon, Paul Grasmanis, David Akers, and others on camera all attending the rally.
I would have like to see T.O. there also.
I agree. Any bonehead with an Internet connection can seemingly get into AP reports these days. What a corrupt and amateurish news organisation the AP is!
I won't be surprised however if Schilling did get threats. That's the way of the liberal, peace loving, tree hugging idiots these days. Violence can only be perpetrated against one's own countrymen, and only if they're conservative, white males.
My money's on Theo Epstein... the gay-blade of of the Red Sox organization. Big anti-Bush/queer factor up in Homo-Central.
And of course, Schilling's cancellation will make front page news, while the pledge of support went unreported in the MSM. Typical.
Free speech for Curt Schilling, not.
This is what liberals do. Silence the oppositon, all the while screaming about being "disenfranchised."
God, I hope this backfires so much that Kerry loses MA.
Schilling has Guts.....you do not know what it is like to live in Massachusetts , I would not be surprised if he has been threatened, or his family.
John Henry's a super-RAT, too, isn't he?
Liberal intimidation on display.
His charity is Curt's pitch for ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) I'm thinking of donating and letting him know that I found out about it after I was impressed with him standing up with President Bush (which is true) Give him some support.
It'll take some time for that to sink in, but as an old southern boy, I know what that means. That will sting in the history books.
