No question they're mostly German, and I have heard Philip referred to as a 'kilted Greek' but that's because one of his relatives was put on the Greek throne, but that lot were surely Germans as well. His grandfather was Prinz Louis von Battenberg, who was First Lord of the Admiralty in 1914 until someone decided it didn't look good.

I think you're right about the Queen Mother -- another decent English girl taken in by that 'German lot'. Ahem. Actually a decent Scottish girl. She was a daughter of the Earl of Strathmore ( which sounds like it should be a good malt whiskey) a Scots earl. The family was famous for its longevity even before she hit a hundred.
