Sadly, what has been lost in the contentious debate over embryonic stem-cell research is that the ADULT stem cells and other non-embryonic cells are the only ones already helping people.
The human body is rife with adult stem cells, and, despite what was previously believed, researchers are finding success in "coaxing" these cells to "become" other things, including neuroprogenitor cells (brain stem cells), human bone cells, and insulin. And people are already benefiting from their use:
* At Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, adult stem cells have helped a man with Parkinson's disease to see an 80 percent reversal of his symptoms.
* Two women, paralyzed in automobile accidents and previously thought to be permanently wheelchair-bound, can now walk with braces after being treated in Portugal with stem cells from their own olfactory tissue.

This is interesting. It might help to change one's perspective on stem cell research.

It won't matter. The left will continue its shrill demands for fetal stem cell research, no matter what.

"stem cells from their own olfactory tissue." And just think your body won't reject YOUR stem cells like it would someone else's.

I rarely seem to hear this. Sounds cool. I heard umbilical cords are also being used for stem cells. Stem cells have not helped paralysis victims, mostly brain related.

And just think your body won't reject YOUR stem cells like it would someone else's. If there was a liklihood of embryonic stem cells to be a source of cures, there would be no need for fed dollars to fund research using them. I think the push has much more to do with culture change as to how we consider life rather than pursuing knowledge.

And having arrived at the same conclusion myself I think you've hit the nail on the head.
We must fight this. It's time for a national Do Not Kill Registry (DoNKR), which will include a list of all of us who by reason of conscience refuse treatments that cost another human being their life. How does one set up such an organization?

If you will notice whenever the "left" talks about the ban on any more embryonic stem cell research being funded with federal dollars they say that Bush banned stem cell research. They mash together embryonic stem cell research with adult and umbilical stem cell research and make it appear to the average person that all stem cell research is banned by Bush (they also try to make it look like the research is banned which it is not but rather future embryonic stem cells will no longer be destroyed, but they can use the cells that were already destroyed and it is not banned but only federal funding for the research is banned). This is because they are experts on disinformation and want people to think that under Bush there is no hope for cures coming from stem cell research. They also hope people will think Bush was wrong for trying to ban stem cell research as results come from the stem cell research not embryonic.

What's more is Republicans aren't making the distinction as strongly as they ought. I suspect this has to do with the fear they will be branded as fighting it on "religious" grounds.
What no one on either side observes is that the Left is every bit as "religiously" motivated as the right. Why do you think that is?
