Clinton: UN Sec. Gen. position "might be appealing."
Opinion Times ^ | 10/28/04 | Jim Pfaff

Posted on 10/28/2004 3:49:15 PM PDT by HallowThisGround

Former President Bill Clinton sat down with Diane Sawyer of ABC News for a personal interview recently. They discussed many topics abou this personal life and his future ambitions. In true Clinton form, the former President did not fully dispel rumors of his interest in the UN Secretary General position.

"There have been rumors that Clinton would like to be secretary general of the United Nations, or head of the World Bank. Asked about these, the former president said, 'Once you've been president, if you want another job, those are about the only two that you know that might be appealing. They're very important jobs.'

But he added he didn't know where the rumors got started. 'As far as I know there's no campaign under way or support for that,' he said. 'And neither does either one of them have a vacancy right now. And I strongly support the current occupants of both offices."

This comes from a man who has not yet settled his mind on the meaning of "is" and who didn't have "sex with that woman" before he did have "inappropriate relations" with her.

Clinton is a master with the trial balloon. He is clearly interested in becoming Secretary General of the UN or he would flatly deny it here. Quite the opposite, he perceives this position as a step up for him.

Look for this story to develop. And if he continues on this path, watch for Hillary to stay out of the Presidential race in 2008. It will be impossible for the American people to countenance a Clinton running the United States and the United Nations at the same time.

I agree! An Impeached LAIR as the head of a lying theiving organization. I think that Bush should open the door for him to take over. And the second he is sworn in, we resign perminatly from the UN!

He becomes Sec Gen, then we stop all funding, and kick the damn U.N. out of NY and move it to the Sudan. Have fun, Slick!

If the USA gets off the Security Council. Then Clinton would be eligible to be Sec. Gen.

This is why only people from irrelevant countries become Sec. Gen.

That is only custom, not rule. So it can still happen.

Uh, I was under the impression that no one from a nation with a permanent seat on the Security Council (the United States, Great Britain, Russia, China, and France) was eligible for head of the United Nations. I believe this is correct, but someone please disillusion me if not correct.

I could be wrong, but my understanding is that it is not a rule at all.

This is what the Official Description reads:

The United Nations Secretary-General is the head of the Secretariat, one of the principal organs of the United Nations. According to the United Nations Charter, the Secretary-General is appointed by the General Assembly on the recommendation of the Security Council. The Secretary-General is described by the Charter as the "chief administrative officer" of this organization; his or her role includes not only administering the Secretariat, but also speaking out on global issues and using his or her good offices to mediate disputes.

But, for the last few decades, its primary function has been to attack the US and Israel, kiss the backside of Terrorists, and work to destroy an attempts to control terrorism.

Imagine Clinton as UN Secretary General and Hitlery as Supreme Court Justice.

We'd never be allowed to go to war again and our military would be wearing UN badges. Or whatever it is the UN people wear.
