These ex-generals (emphasis on the 'ex') are extremely upset and vindictive that Franks' minimal manpower acting with speed approach was a demonstrative unqualified success in both Afghanistan and Iraq. If they had had their way, we would have had 2 to 3 times the number of ground troops and magnitudes greater casualties. They can't take it that Tommy was right and knew what he was doing.
Most folks don't understand that the majority of folks in a combat operation are the support folks, aka, butchers, bakers and candlestick makers of Shakespearean lore. What Rumsfeld insisted on, and Gen. Franks ultimately understood is that those support folks in this operation were, by and large targets...which translates into potential casualties...which in modern day communication translates into modern day nightly news. We have to date only had just over a thousand casualties....each a tragedy for sure....but to put it into perspective...very few Vietnam Veterans ever spent a month in country where there was less than a thousand brave Americans met their maker.. Lumpy Lockhart, like the traitor he is being a mouthpiece for is, frankly, a full of bovine secretions of the highest order.
