State constitutional amendments defining marriage as a union between a man and a woman are likely to pass in all 11 states where they are on the Nov. 2 ballot, making the amendment a factor in the presidential race in three battleground states Michigan, Ohio and Oregon. The big question is whether President Bush or Democratic nominee Sen. John Kerry will benefit from having the amendment on the ballot. "It's really a fascinating question. I don't have an answer," said Brad Snavely, executive director of the Michigan Family Forum, a traditional-values group that supports Michigan's marriage amendment. "I think it's difficult to tell at this point," said Christopher Barron, political director of the homosexual-rights group Log Cabin Republicans, which opposes the amendments. "There are so many wild cards in this election ... these state amendments are wild cards." In addition to defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman, all but one of the amendments Montana's says other marriage-like unions such as civil unions of same-sex couples will not be recognized. Recent polls indicate that the 11 amendments are likely to pass, with support ranging from 52 percent in North Dakota to 77 percent in Arkansas.

Welcome to FR.
Slightly dishonest article. It was thrown out in LA because it was written incorrectly...once the legislation is amended to fit proper protocal it'll pass through easily again.
Bush will benefit big-time from these votes. All but the most leftwing of the leftwing oppose gay marriage. Kerry certainly FAVORS gay marriage, but even he knows it is a killer, and he therefore takes a position that is a lie. This could put Bush over the top in Michigan, which would end it all for Kerry. Kerry cannot and will not win w/o Michigan; probably won't win with Michigan, but cannot win w/o.
Yup.
The lack of responses usually gets some notice though.
NY is honestly a tossup.
You have areas like New Windsor and Ithaca that should be fumigated, carpets removed and burned, and quarantined for plague.
And then there are places that are up in arms all due to a single billboard talking about "reproductive health choices."
*snort*
I can't say anything about NorDak myself, no knowledge of the place relevant to the topic.
The unfortunate part about NY: most people I know of in this state don't bother to even be informed about candidates and what they stand for.
Year after year it's the same thing, like watching a mouse in an electrified maze.
People like Sheldon Silver get elected, do something scuzzy, and the people who voted for him go, "That's an outrage!"
And then they vote for him again the next time around as if Silver won't do it again.
Just like the mouse running across the electrified floor bits in the maze time and time again.
Obviously, I don't know dirt about N. Dakota either.
*chuckle*
You're closer to NorDak than I am.
The odd part, PA is usually more solidly Dem than other states.. but I've seen TONS of Bush Cheney signs there.. and only tight small groups of sKerry Edwards signs.
It'll be interesting to see how PA turns out.
LOL!
Dem party name and symbol costs them votes, I love it.
Wish there'd be something similar in my area!
