You know, Saddam was a nasty, mean, murderous, conniving and overall not-very-nice SOB... But he was not stupid. It just finally all cought up to him in the end. Of course the weapons were gone before we got there! Look, I know the desert is big, but how do you miss a convoy carrying that many explosives? Even smuggled, how'd they get it ALL out? Ladies and gentlemen, Saddam, when faced with the extermination of his regime, proceeded to dump all evidence to other sources in the hope that they would resist US forces later.

If you're a drug dealer and the cops tell you that they're going to be invading in, oh, the next few days, do you keep the drugs in your house or do you get rid of them?

Good post. Let me try to build on your logic

According to Paul Wolfowitz, Saddam was in bed with Al Queda. And of course Al Queda is causing Russia all sorts of headaches in Chechnya. So why would Putin help Saddam?

Perhaps this makes sense it you think that Russia's only interest in the game was food-for-oil. But of course Russia is also involved in the worldwide war on Terror; and Putin has endorse President Bush's second term.

Okay, let's assume Russia removed these tons of munitions. How & to where would Russian forces remove those munitions? Would Turkey give them transit rights?

I am just thinking out loud right now. Trying to piece together this story

Well, Saddam is one thug that won't be terrorizing the region anymore.
