Mel Gibson weighs in on embryonic cell measure ('Well, Arnold, I'm still waiting for your call')

NEW YORK Mel Gibson says he has an "ethical problem" with Proposition 71 -- the 3 (b) billion dollar bond measure to fund human embryonic stem cell research.

Gibson appeared on A-B-C's "Good Morning America" today and says that he shouldn't have to pay taxes to help fund the cloning of human embryos.

Gibson is Catholic and he directed "The Passion of the Christ," the controversial movie which chronicles the last hours of the life of Jesus Christ. He says he was initially ecstatic when he first heard about Prop 71, but later changed his mind when he learned about what he called an "unethical" research method.

Gibson says he called Arnold Schwarzenegger last night to talk about the issue and that the governor told him he had to make a speech and would call him back.

Speaking on camera, he says: "Well, Arnold, I'm still waiting for your call."

Schwarzenegger recently broke ranks with the Republican Party to announce his support for the measure.

Heard Mel on Laura Ingram this morning also. He's sexy even over the radio! Just an observation. Anyway, I'm glad he has come out in opposition to this proposition, since the renowned scientist Brad Pitt came out in favor a few days ago and is making the rounds exposing in pot-riddled thinking for the world to see. (Pitt is pretty sexy too, but Mel wins by a landslide as there is substance behind that facade)

Psalm 139:13-16
For thou hast possessed my reins:
thou hast covered me in my mother's womb.
I will praise thee;
for I am fearfully and wonderfully made:
marvellous are thy works;
and that my soul knoweth right well.
My substance was not hid from thee,
when I was made in secret,
and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect;
and in thy book all my members were written,
which in continuance were fashioned,
when as yet there was none of them.

I heard somewhere that scientists wanted Christopher Reeve's body for medical research of paralysis and that the family said no.

Is this true?

If so, then how hypocritical would that be, for a support of government-funded embryonic stem-cell research?

Whatever people think of abortion and other related issues, there seem to be people out there who are somewhat BOSESSED with devaluing the unborn, and destroying thm.

A big YES for Mel. Adult stem cell research is better than embryonic.

I wish someone(the print media) would publish Mel Gibson's text during the interview this morning. Too bad the AP is one sided and will never give the good quotes that come from the conservatives.

Well, okay, but towards whom is he leaning?

Can't imagine that topic wasn't touched.

I might move to California just so I could vote for him. We shouldn't just limit him to Senate. He was born in New York State, so he could be President. I know another actor that made a great President.

I love Mel's position on this, but he is wishy-washy on war and other issues. Don't like that.

That shows a lack of brains.

Does anyone know if the ad Mel Gibson made against 71 is running on the t.v.? Is there a link for it online somewhere?

Mel rocks. I've always liked him more than I "should have" and now I know why!

Mel is the John Wayne and Jimmy Stewart of the 21st Century. Both were tough, patriotic, and class acts.
