Did ABC even report that they even had it, and were waiting authentication? I don't think so.

Some kid wraps a towel around his face, rants incoherently making vague threats for an hour, and sends the tape to ABC. Should ABC report it as possible fact, knowing it may very well be a sick joke? I don't think so.

This wasn't Bin Laden or a known henchman talking in Arabic in a cave. It was a kid blathering on in perfect English. There's room for doubt, especially as Al-Qaida typically releases videos in a different manner with different content.

News media must get lots of wierd things in the mail, few warranting exposure - unless authenticated.

Checking it out first is proper. Giving it to the CIA and FBI for review is correct procedure.
NOW the issue is whether ABC will report on an authenticated threat tape.

The real-world implications of the tape are disturbing enough as it is. From a political standpoint, airing this tape would be devastating for Kerry. Anything that reminds voters of the threat posed by terrorists generates votes for Bush, especially among "security moms." Kerry is already having huge problems with the gender gap. He hasn't secured the female voters he needs to be in a strong position on November 2.

I've got no problem with ABC holding while the Feds authenticate the tape.

But now that it's been authenticated, any waffling by ABC should be over.

They have a responsibility to release the tape.

Agreed. I'm sure the tape will be covered. This evenings news broadcasts (especially Fox) should be very interesting. Both the terror tape and the Russia angle on the munitions should begin to play out. I'm sure that Rush and Hannity will seize on both. These stories are far too big for the MSM to ignore. They may not jump into intense coverage tonight, but five days is just too long a period for concealment.

As of yesterday afternoon, ABC was planning to air it NOV. 3, so as not to influence the elections, regardless to which direction the influence was directed.

Since it is a terrorist tape, Has no new info, is ambiguous, it should not be shown until after the election.
