There's something about this story that doesn't wash. First we're told Sadaam did not believe that the USA would really attack. Now we're told in advance of said attack he clears out his arsenals. I'm not buying it.

Look at in light of the big picture. Saddam was trying to get the sanctions eased. He may not have believed the US would invade, but was moving the WMDs out of Iraq before letting inspectors have full run of all suspected sites. UNSCOM come in. Doesn't find anything. Sanctions lifted. WMDs get shipped back.

Well, try this on.

Saddam did not think we would attact because he had France, Germany & Russia "over a barrel" as well as the UN. They would, they assured him, keep Bush from getting the resolutions to go to war.

NOW, Freance, Germany and the UN fight like H-e-double L. (Do you remember Russia making much fuss at the UN?)

However, they were dealing with a Texan - who wont back down. SO - now the coward that we now all know Saddam is, gets what he thinks is a sweet deal with Russia to save his hiney and get a ticket out of Iraq to safe haven, if things go bad.

Putin has already been to the ranch and apprised of the "we know what you're doing" bit, and "we're going to take Saddam down but we need your help in getting the WMD;s outta there so's our troops don't get annihilated...etc." They make deal.

Russia is also the only one of the 2 country (Fr,Gmy) with the capability to do it.)
