"If the Russians took these explosives, I wouldn't assume they were helping Saddam by doing so. More likely, they were helping themselves."
What need would the Russians have for these??? Its not as if they do have have their own. Seems to me the intent was to help Saddam and/or Syria, after all, have we not heard so many claim that Saddam had no weapons, JFKerry may well become president upon that claim alone. So who is helping who.
Maybe it was the plot the plan all along to make sure Saddam's weapons were missing so the world could mock President Bush just as the lying crooked liberals have this year along.
Why did the Russians not come forth on MONDAY and say hey guys we helped Saddam take his weapons out of there before the war?

I can see a lot of reasons Russia might want these weapons. Most likely, Saddam "bought" them with a promise of huge oil contracts when sanctions were lifted. If Russia wasn't going to get paid for them, they would certainly want something that valuable back.
This may be an operation the Russians wanted to keep close to the vest. We'll see what Putin has to say.
