Honestly.. I believe Kerry thought it would be closer going into election.
I believe the long-term plan WAS to initially release this story on 60 minutes on Sunday Night if the race was a dead-heat, to break 1% or 2% in Kerry's favor on the final days before the truth could get out.
But they determined they were so far behind in the polls that there best hope would to be release it early and hope it festers for a week.
