but the new results cannot be used to explain global warming, according to the scientists who did the study.
Well, duh! These scientists understand that there is no faster way to dry up gov't research funds than make that connection. Oops, the censors let this tidbit through however...:
From the 1400s to the 1700s, for example, Europe and North America experienced a "Little Ice Age." For a period of about 50 years during that time, there were almost no sunspots.

Well that's an interesting report, but don't those 8,000 year old records get rather sticky?

this article is the first and only sensible that describes our move to socialism over the last 70 years. now i know, it has been the sunspots.

I, for one, think that maybe the Democrats will say that it's the fault of our current President, George W. Bush.

Previous studies have suggested cooler periods on Earth were related to long stretches with low sunspot counts. From the 1400s to the 1700s, for example, Europe and North America experienced a "Little Ice Age." For a period of about 50 years during that time, there were almost no sunspots. But a firm connection between sunspot numbers and climate remains elusive, many scientists say. my question is "do these many scientists work for CBS news?"

"junk science. they have no idea what sunspots were doing 8,000 freaking years ago."
I wouldn't call it junk. Anthropolgy, how humans evolved? There you'll find a rich history of junk. But reconstructing atmospheric data has gotten to be very sophisticated in the last couple of decades...(though that doesn't mean how they interpret that data holds much water).

"But a firm connection between sunspot numbers and climate remains elusive, many scientists say."
Not CBS news ... just any university that charges more than 10 percent overhead per grant. By def, 80 cents on the dollar comes from the federal gov't.
'many scientists' equals gov't scientists ... and they know where their bread is buttered.
