Orson Scott Card is one of the best Sci-Fi writers. His Ender's series are enormously popular and translated to many languages. His websites attract attention of readers from all over the world.

Since 9/11 he wrote many political essays. He is a conservative democrat of Zell Miller type (there are still few left) who is upset with hijacking of his party by the Left. His articles are more inline with the FreeRepublic spirit than with his own political website: http://www.ornery.org/index.html  that is heavily populated by American- and other Leftists who are delightfully annoyed by Mr. Card's conservatism. He does not post on that site and its moderated by somebody else.

Links: his articles discussed at FR: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/k-orsonscottcard/browse  and archived here (it is a must go place for all new to OSC political writing): http://www.ornery.org/essays/warwatch/index.html

His literary, non-political website: http://www.hatrack.com

His fresh articles appear in the Rhinoceros Times, Greensboro, NC: http://www.rhinotimes.com/greensboro/  (before being posted permanently on his The Ornery American website). Read his books/movies/and everything reviews: http://www.hatrack.com/osc/reviews/everything/

His "About" page: http://www.hatrack.com/osc/about.shtml

I'm torn... would I rather have OSC or Mark Steyn as GWB's press secretary...

I love this article as it tries to go behind the root cause of many, many indecent acts by the left. It goes toward understanding the values of the left. As such, if true, it helps us to combat them.

I must say that he probably is describing the hard left (such as Kerry). A good portion of their voters, though, have been voting that way not because they belong to the hard left, but because they get their news from leftist news sources.

I can add Victor Davis Hanson to the mix. And then let them do one week shifts in turns.

It's because they have no shame. ... Indeed, the whole question of right or wrong is irrelevant to the thinking of the Left.

Why is this? How is it a child can actually be raised to not understand the difference between right and wrong, and thus become the tortured soul known as a 'liberal'?

In order to explain the truth as to the origin of shamelessness, and how to ultimately begin the process of fixing it, one liberal at a time, I suggest you read this ...

'Who's your Daddy?' A Liberal's Plea for Dad.

This briefly describes the root of the issue, and its remedy.

After all, it's a rare dude or dudette who decides to become a liberal after spending their time as a conservative. Nope, when folks 'grow up', they grow up into, yep, conservative morals.

OSC is a Democrat (still, I guess) himself. Like Zell Miller or Victor Davis Hanson and a number of other respectful figures quoted on FR. This is less about a difference of opinion what is the best for the country than about absence of the normal debate.

Any successful company utilizes a feedback from the marketplace, both positive and negative feedback, to improve their product. A shrill scream that Left produces now is not a feedback, its noise, very loud but still just noise. Its a huge disservice to the administration, because they too need a feedback to improve the service they provide to the country.

OSC is the guest of honor at Boskone, held in downtown Boston. Should be interesting.

On reading this, I thought about highlighting and posting with my comments, those statements in this article that I felt most represented a powerful and damning indictment of the left, but after finishing the entire article, I have to say the no statement in particular serves as a stand-alone indictment. Rather, the entire article is THE most succinct, dead-on analysis of the sickness that has permeated the left that I have ever read.

And, its directness coupled with the lack of any effort to 'dress it up', is a hallmark of honesty.

Good post. I was saying the same thing the other day (Post), but Card does a good job of fleshing out the subject.

From time to time, I’ll post or ping on noteworthy articles about politics, foreign and military affairs. FReepmail me if you want on or off my list.

It's hard to believe this author still describes himself as a dem. Nevertheless, this article is too accurate and comprehensive. I believe it requires maximum circulation IMHO.
