KERRY SPOT
Jim Miklaszewski of NBC News pretty much dismantled the New York Times attack on behalf of Kerry today.
NBC News: Miklaszewski: April 10, 2003, only three weeks into the war, NBC News was embedded with troops from the Army's 101st Airborne as they temporarily take over the Al Qakaa weapons installation south of Baghdad. But these troops never found the nearly 380 tons of some of the most powerful conventional explosives, called HMX and RDX, which is now missing. The U.S. troops did find large stockpiles of more conventional weapons, but no HMX or RDX, so powerful less than a pound brought down Pan Am 103 in 1988, and can be used to trigger a nuclear weapon. In a letter this month, the Iraqi interim government told the International Atomic Energy Agency the high explosives were lost to theft and looting due to lack of security. Critics claim there were simply not enough U.S. troops to guard hundreds of weapons stockpiles, weapons now being used by insurgents and terrorists to wage a guerrilla war in Iraq. (NBCs Nightly News, 10/25/04)
If Jill Abramson, managing editor of the New York Times, had a shred of concern over her paper's reputation for getting the facts right never mind objectivity or fairness, she would be running the correction - or at least this blatantly contradictory information - in the giant headline font and above-the-fold location that today's story got. But I guess the interest in echoing the sentiments of Maureen Dowd is more important than getting it right at the Old Gray Lady.
Raise hell with the "Public editor", or ombudsman of the NY Times, at:
public@nytimes.com
Flood the SOB with e-mails. He reads them all. I just sent him one on another matter.
Thanks for the Breaking designation. Mods are the best, as always!!!
For a first time poster, you sure came out with a bang!
Nice job!
Gee, do you suppose maybe all that diddling around for months with the UN gave terrorists ample opportunity to squirrel the explosives away somewhere BEFORE we arrived? Nah, who'd believe that...
Thanks for the ping! I just saw Sean say this and m jaw dropped.
####Kerry apparently can't connect like Bush does####
Rush ran a great parody today. It was Clinton & Kerry campaigning together to generate enthusiasm among black voters. Kerry kept talking in that Boston Brahmin aristocratic accent about how he understood life in the hood. I don't know if you all remember Sanford & Son, but there was a white cop on that show who would always try to talk in ghetto slang and would screw it up every time. Anyhow, that's what happened to Kerry in this parody. Clinton kept telling him to keep quiet so he could do all the talking. LOL!
Al Qakaa est el ka ka
When I watched Brit tonight, I couldn't believe he reported the Times story as fact. The media must think search engines are some new technology we've installed in our airports.
Umm, for people that think, nothing is going to change their vote at this point. Right now we are concentrating on the undecideds, and for them, this stuff means nothing. To them, it is all about "feelings."
The NY Times story actually never stated that there were explosives there when the troops arrived. They do state that the troops found nothing when they arrived, but they've buried that fact under alot of speculation and spin such that they imply that Bush let the explosives get looted. You can bet that they will retract nothing.
Ashlee Simpson dance!
As soon as I saw the story was from the NYT, I figured I had but to sit back and wait for the real truth to come out.
I believe you are correct, if they had anything, anything at all they would have used it by now. They recycling old news, remember the national guard story they tried to resurrect and put some extra pepper on it by sending in FAKE documents. Again the bloggers came to the rescue and were the first to prove the documents as false. Everything they have tried to throw at this president has fallen flat on its face, LOL oh ya...
Landslides a comming, get the toaster ready...
CD
Why did it not ruin my lunch? Because I'm praying, y'all. I believe in the power of prayer. Landslide, Lord. Let there be no doubt. Please make it so. Amen.
Good catch! This is from NBC? Wow!
A great find. What are they trying to do -- take over Fox's job of being fair?
OFF TOPIC
Hannity is talking about Fast Eddie Rendell blocking the Military being able to vote in PA
Tonight on the radio Fast Eddie FINALLY admited that ballots were late in getting out
THEN ... Fast Eddie says he'll overnight them (Fedx ??) to the troops
