KERRY SPOT
Jim Miklaszewski of NBC News pretty much dismantled the New York Times attack on behalf of Kerry today.
NBC News: Miklaszewski: April 10, 2003, only three weeks into the war, NBC News was embedded with troops from the Army's 101st Airborne as they temporarily take over the Al Qakaa weapons installation south of Baghdad. But these troops never found the nearly 380 tons of some of the most powerful conventional explosives, called HMX and RDX, which is now missing. The U.S. troops did find large stockpiles of more conventional weapons, but no HMX or RDX, so powerful less than a pound brought down Pan Am 103 in 1988, and can be used to trigger a nuclear weapon. In a letter this month, the Iraqi interim government told the International Atomic Energy Agency the high explosives were lost to theft and looting due to lack of security. Critics claim there were simply not enough U.S. troops to guard hundreds of weapons stockpiles, weapons now being used by insurgents and terrorists to wage a guerrilla war in Iraq. (NBCs Nightly News, 10/25/04)
If Jill Abramson, managing editor of the New York Times, had a shred of concern over her paper's reputation for getting the facts right never mind objectivity or fairness, she would be running the correction - or at least this blatantly contradictory information - in the giant headline font and above-the-fold location that today's story got. But I guess the interest in echoing the sentiments of Maureen Dowd is more important than getting it right at the Old Gray Lady.
They knew the numbers
Dem vp hopeful John Edwards blasted Bush for not securing the explosives: "It is reckless and irresponsible to fail to protect and safeguard one of the largest weapons sites in the country. And by either ignoring these mistakes or being clueless about them, George Bush has failed. He has failed as our commander in chief; he has failed as president."
A top Bush official e-mailed DRUDGE late Monday: "Let me get this straight, are Mr. Kerry and Mr. Edwards now saying we did not go into Iraq soon enough? We should have invaded and liberated Iraq sooner?"
What's the take on DU in light of the NBC blowhole? Suicide pacts? More gnashing of teeth?
Ay ay ay Cielito Lindo!!! It looks like Kerry was caught chewing excrement with this story; I imagine that Maricon Edwards probably dropped his compact when he found out that he jumped the gun again...like premature ejaculation. I hope the Republicans blast Kerry and Bubba and The NC Hustler tomorrow for their shameless behavior.
Is anybody keeping count of all the sKerry lies? There are already a few books out.

Are you Flippin' kidding me or what? He didn't say that did he? Now I've heard it all!
Alternate caption for your photo:
Clinton to himself..."There you go John, that KICK ME sign looks real good..."
My gratitude to your son for his service and for his family who waits at home..God bless our armed forces.
that's where I get mine now as I can't take the chance of turning on the TV and seeing Rather-not or Lurch etc., - bad for the heart.
Not to mention - get our side in Internet too...but had no idea such a large % does! Super!
Hardy Har Har Har! Keyboard alert for me.
I'm simple minded...
They were probably reminded by the Bush campaign that reports from their reporter existed. If they didn't report it, the Bush people certainly were going to (and will continue to point to it).
"Truthfully, I am surprised that NBC didn't just shut up and let it go."
They couldn't do that as there were embeds WITH the 101st when they arrived at the weapons dump(s). While the soldiers from the 101st aren't apt to come out to the press (though I know a few who would relish the opportunity!) there is the brass at DoD and others who know this didn't happen the way the Times portrays it...
If NBC didn't speak up- it would have gotten REALLY ugly...
Rush was in on this piece. That's the proof that this is a Karl Rove moment.
Rush Limbaugh has interviewed VP Cheney several times this past year. In one, Cheney warned about October surprises...that "we've got a few things at our disposal" (paraphrased).
You have 15 grandchildren? WOW!
No yawning here when NBC comes out to correct the NYSlimes in favor of this administration.
AAAAAAAGH!
"Lockhart was correct, but not in the way he intended."
Hehe :)
What's bad for Democrats is GOOD for AMERICA!
The same guy who went with Kerry on his Mystical tour of Cambodia on Christmas Eve 68
