How is early voting even legal? Doesn't the US Constitution explicitly say that federal elections must be the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November?

I hate early voting. They are doing it here and my friends from New Orleans tell me at precincts there they don't even need ID. They bus them in and give them cigarets for voting. It is really bad here.

My exact sentiments. If voting is important enough to a person, they will find the time to do it on ELECTION DAY. If out of town, they can vote absentee. The Dims need this to help with multiple votes. They've taken the term "Vote early and often" to a new level.

The Constitution says that the electors must cast their votes on the same day in all the states. It gives Congress the power to determine the date when the electors are chosen.

I believe Maine used to pick its electors before all the other states. There was a saying, "As Maine goes, so goes the nation." After the 1936 election, Jim Farley offered an update: "As Maine goes, so goes Vermont." (Those were the only two states which voted for Landon.)
