(BARF ALERT) 'Celsius' Rant is Tepid and insipid (Boston Globe biased film review)
The Boston Globe ^ | 10/25/04 | Wesley Morris

Posted on 10/25/2004 10:38:22 AM PDT by raccoonradio

''Celsius 41.11" has an agenda that's meant to put Michael Moore's ''Fahrenheit 9/11" in its place. In doing so, it assumes the comically defensive attitude of Betty Hutton in ''Annie Get Your Gun": Anything Moore can do, this tedious Bush-besotted lecture can do better. ''Celsius 41.11" refers to the temperature at which the brain starts to die, a fact that the documentary, directed by Kevin Knoblock, is polite enough to tell us, while it shows cruddy footage of a jet flying into the World Trade Center.

As you can guess from the two films' competing temperature gauges, Knoblock and Moore speak different languages. ''Fahrenheit 9/11" is conspiratorial, tragic-comedy musing on the implications of the George W. Bush administration's war in Iraq. It's not entirely clear what ''Celsius 41.11" is aside from a piece of stone-faced reactionism.

Actually, it wonders why so many people all over the world want to demonize the present so. But rather than launch into a series of mind-changing hosannas, it chooses to make its case via a PowerPoint presentation that takes the typical anti-Bush complaints (he didn't win the election, and he didn't do enough to stop 9/11, and he's stealing our civil liberties; plus: what weapons of mass destruction?) and uses them not to polish the president's record but to lambaste Senator John Kerry, the democratic presidential nominee.

Liberal Boston Globe is tepid and insipid. I guess this was to be expected. The best way to combat this biased opinion is to see this movie. I did and it was a hell of a letter better and sensical than the Glob's review of it.

Do they mean "President"?

when my fiance and I went to see this Friday night, there was a fat-michael-moore-esqe guy sitting at the end of our row. he was obviously there to do a review - making all kinds of disgusted noises and couldn't sit through the first 5 minutes. When he left I said: "Thank you, A-hole," pretty loudly.

That was sweet.

All the more reason for me to see this film if the Liberal Boston Globe is panning it.
