WEST ALLIS, Wis. She's never in a bad mood, says one member of her Secret Service detail.
She's "cordial," Robert Haugh says, putting away the silverware on the blue-and-white C-9 Air Force jet that has been home to the first lady and her 22-year-old twin daughters, Jenna and Barbara, for the past few weeks.
"You can't ask for anything more," Mr. Haugh says of Laura Bush, who may prove to be the real "October surprise" of the 2004 presidential campaign. She is described by President Bush as his "secret weapon" and by daughter Jenna as "a role model for women across the country."
Her chestnut hair perfectly coifed, her gray suede pumps unscuffed and understated, her pastel blue coat and paisley shawl comfortably stylish, the 58-year-old former schoolteacher has been deployed by the Bush campaign to do what she does best: Make undecided voters fall in love with her.
Take Jeanne Richter, a 77-year-old registered Democrat who is a resident of the Village at Manor Park, where Mrs. Bush made her last solo appearance before joining her husband for the last week of the campaign. Mrs. Richter, who said she was "wavering," is now leaning toward voting for Mr. Bush.
"She's seems to be a wonderful lady," the Wisconsin woman said.
Mrs. Richter says Mrs. Bush is a better first lady than Teresa Heinz Kerry would be. "No doubt about it in my mind. ... [Mrs. Bush] was absolutely wonderful, and I'm so happy I took the time to come down and hear her personally. Sometimes when you read things, that's one thing. It's informative, yes. But seeing her in person makes you think a little bit deeper."

A lot of people vote for the First Lady and not the candidate.
The Leftist media is the only reason why it's close.
Laura Bush is just plain awesome.
Thought that it was going to be W's Mother, I am watching her on C-SPAN now.
That said, Dubya will thump him like a drum on Nov. 2nd.
"Laura Bush is class personified."
Laura's spokeman had her comments regarding Theresa's comments about Laura never having a job:
"She didn't take offense. She knows how difficult it is to be the wife of a man campaigning for President".
Touche!! A palpable touche!!
the infowarrior
Amazing grace.
Momma-T is the school in a flu epidemic - No Class."
LOL, thank you Keith, I have been long overdue for a good laugh. That is perfect.
Hope your right. I even have myself convinced half the time, that it'll be a blow out.
But then again, 1992 is REAL, real fresh in my mind. This is just too dang close, and I don't see the race breaking either way. And, in event of a close vote anywhere, I have read of many well-documented examples of voter fraud, well organized and always conducted by the Democrats. Plus, Gore out and out tried to steal the 2000 election via legal gimicks and a few, local, corrupt election officials.
If this election isn't a blow out for Bush, there is nothing that the Kerry Democrats won't do to attain power .. nothing! They pretty much feel they can get away with anything, no one will stop them, no one will report the truth if they do.
So, I'll be nervous until this horse is in the barn.

To her right is Astronaut Buzz Aldrin and Florida Governor Jeb Bush.
She's 58 O_o
Could have fooled me! I hope I'm doing that well when I get on up in years.
So will I. Very nervous. I wish it was over.
Carolyn
Laura Bush is impossible to dislike! And I, as a 57 year old man, like looking at her.
Laura, like her husband, has grown into her role. She has been outstanding as the First Lady.
This is true.
Laura and Condi should make dual appearances in Florida this last week. They should talk about the opportunities for women, especially minority women to make lives for themselves by believing in the lord and having faith in thier abilities.
They should visit every church in the state. Force Kerry to call them out on the carpet. Then they can turn around and nail Kerry to the wall about churces losing tax exempt status.
Scare the bejeezus out of the ministers.
or as we say here in Jax (50,000 at Alltel Sat cheering!)
"Laura! Laura! Laura!!! YAY!!!!!"
