Huge Cache of Explosives Vanished From Site in Iraq By JAMES GLANZ, WILLIAM J. BROAD and DAVID E. SANGER

Published: October 25, 2004

This article was reported and written by James Glanz, William J. Broad and David E. Sanger.

BAGHDAD, Iraq, Oct. 24 - The Iraqi interim government has warned the United States and international nuclear inspectors that nearly 380 tons of powerful conventional explosives - used to demolish buildings, produce missile warheads and detonate nuclear weapons - are missing from one of Iraq's most sensitive former military installations.

The huge facility, called Al Qaqaa, was supposed to be under American military control but is now a no man's land, still picked over by looters as recently as Sunday. United Nations weapons inspectors had monitored the explosives for many years, but White House and Pentagon officials acknowledge that the explosives vanished sometime after the American-led invasion last year.

The White House said President Bush's national security adviser, Condoleezza Rice, was informed within the past month that the explosives were missing. It is unclear whether President Bush was informed. American officials have never publicly announced the disappearance, but beginning last week they answered questions about it posed by The New York Times and the CBS News program "60 Minutes......"

Good instincts.

Good instincts, maybe, but I still misspelled role.

"A chart in his letter listed 341.7 metric tons, about 377 American tons, of HMX, RDX and PETN as missing."

Folks usually can't find what blows up real good. Other than that, the Adin is correct. This stuff is all over the place and the only reason it was tagged by the IAEC is, because it was located at a nuke developement site. This is also common HE, which the Times goes out of it's way to make it sound like exotic, special stuff. Here's what there claim against the Admin amounts to...

Sgt: Get Bush on the phone and tell him to get his ass down here and guard this stuff.

Pvt: Yes Sir!

later...

Pvt(to President Bush): Get yer ass down here and guard this stuff!

Bush (according to the leftist clowns in the media): I can't right now, I'm workin' with Cheney to increase Haliburton's profits and I've got appts this month to conjure up a scam to grab old people's social security and next month to make a deal with the Red Chinese to increase our job exports.

"The only reason this stockpile was under seal," said one senior administration official, "is because it was located at Al Qaqaa," where nuclear work had gone on years ago.

The above at the end of the article is clear evidence that a nuke program was in the plans of Saddam Hussein.

Quack! Quack! Your jibberish is laughable. Cover up? What cover up? The article clearly states that the RDX went missing between the time the IAEA ABANDONED the site to several weeks later when the U.S. actually invaded the country.

This is actually good news for the President - it shows that the sKerry campaigned lied to the American people about the threat Saddam's regime posed and that he probably gave the explosives to some very bad people. Only a government operation could move 750,000 pounds of material in that short of time. You're not gonna move it in one night in a few small trucks or cars.

".......the explosives, mainly HMX and RDX, ........ The bomb that brought down Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, in 1988 used less than a pound of the material of the type stolen from Al Qaqaa, and somewhat larger amounts were apparently used in the bombing of a housing complex in November 2003 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and the blasts in a Moscow apartment complex in September 1999 that killed nearly 300 people. "

" explosives could also be used to trigger a nuclear weapon, which was why international nuclear inspectors had kept a watch on the material.

Dear NYT morons: Please tell me again that this is not a link between Al-Qaeda and Saddam.

The dynamic duo of confusion and lies. Too bad they've given up their credibility.

What's new about this? Kerry lying about meeting with foreign leaders was played out long ago.

Explain, please.

The NY Times thinks it is breaking a story about the Bush administration letting 350 tons of explosives go missing. I think that by the end of the week, it will be clear that Saddam removed those weapons in big trucks going to Syria prior to the war

Which leaves the public to wonder what else Saddam had that might have travelled across the border prior to the war. Stockpiles perhaps?

So remind me again, exactly when was the last time that the Blixie Boys eyeballed this stuff?

Forgot what he told the media, take a look at what he told you and me while staring into the camera at the second debate:

Transcript from second debate:

I went to meet with the members of the Security Council in the week before we voted. I went to New York. I talked to all of them to find out how serious they were about really holding Saddam Hussein accountable.

I came away convinced that, if we worked at it, if we were ready to work and letting Hans Blix do his job and thoroughly go through the inspections, that if push came to shove, they'd be there with us.

But the president just arbitrarily brought the hammer down and said, "Nope. Sorry, time for diplomacy is over. We're going."

He rushed to war without a plan to win the peace.

Ladies and gentleman, he gave you a speech and told you he'd plan carefully, take every precaution, take our allies with us. He didn't. He broke his word.

That would imply that this was a setup for a Karl rove sucker punch.
