Denise Majette backed out of one in GA with Johnny Issakson(sp?) too. Conflict of events was the reason given. The dimwits are folding like toilet paper.
I don't know where you get that Huckabee (practically a RINO) has the same views as Holt. Holt is a true conservative (thus the reason for no support from the national or even state Republican Party). Huckabee, though reasonably conservative on moral & 2nd amendment issues, is quite liberal fiscally. He's never seen a social program or tax he didn't like.
Press Release from Holt campaign concerning the cancelled debate:
"Her record needs hiding."
LINCOLN BALKS; WON'T SHOW AT TODAY'S DEBATE
SPRINGDALE -- Republican U.S. Senate candidate Jim Holt says that a last minute change of mind by his opponent Senator Blanche Lincoln to instead forego participating in a debate today shows her unwillingness to be confronted about her voting record.
Holt was referring to Lincoln's decision to skip a debate sponsored by the League of Women Voters that was originally scheduled to be held at noon today at the Holiday Inn & Convention Center in Fort Smith. The Holt campaign was notified on Saturday that Senator Lincoln was instead sending a local businessman in her stead. "I think the general consensus is that she's going to do as few debates as possible, if any at all. I would only ask for a bit more of a notice on a decision like this, for both our supporters and the ones who organized this whole thing." The Holt campaign has decided against debating the stand-in. Asked Holt, "What's the point in debating someone who can simply say at any time 'I'm not sure what Senator Lincoln's response would be?'"
Holt, a conservative State Senator who has the best anti-tax record of any Arkansas legislator, said that he looks forward to Thursday night's debate sponsored by AETN and carried by C-SPAN. "I think the voters have a right to at least one debate where they can see for themselves who best represents their views."
"As Arkansas voters learn that Lincoln supports abortion up to the day of delivery, has voted to protect so-called "gay marriages", opposed President Bush?s conservative judges 17 times, has a 'D' rating with the NRA and an 'F' with Gun Owners of America, they move away from the incumbent," Senator Holt said. "Blanche Lincoln is a pro-tax liberal who received a mere 16 percent from the Christian Coalition and a Zero from the National Federation of Independent Business." Holt explained. "As Arkansas voters learn these facts, we continue to gain ground," added Holt. "This is why we're down to only one debate now."
I do not watch much local programming however.
I saw one Blanche sign today as well, along with a Kerry sign, but there are few signs up in this part of Arkansas. (south east)
Things seem to be very quiet here. Very quiet indeed!
Ping to #23.
Maybe a little too quiet. She probably figures she has it in the bag, so why bother. Well, I'm not giving up on Jim quite so fast. He's beat heavy odds in the past.
Thanks!
It often makes little sense.
I think anything can happen, and the polling is usually about ten percent off the mark.
But, my vote and those of my family are assured for Holt. Against the increase in term limits, for the marriage amendment, and I'll be darned if I know what the others are except for Bush and four more.
"For Blanche Lincoln for re-election to the United States Senate. Because Miss Blanche has earned it."
I'm definitely not counting Holt (R) out.

I really hope she doesn't chicken out of the next debate. It would be good to have a live debate thread and get some attention on this campaign. Jim has had to operate at a disadvantage from day one, and the national party has been little help.

Do you get CSPAN?
Yes, I get it on at least one of my tv's.
Should be on at 7 pm Thursday, if she doesn't back out. In my opinion, that is not only an act of cowardice, but of complete disrespect of her opponent and his constituents. But then, that is their MO, so I guess this shouldn't surprise me.
Hi sw,
I think that the Arkansas Democrat Gazette has already endorsed her in one of their editorials last week. I am posting a response I have received from the Holt campaign on 10/19/2004:
"Folks, I just about had to laugh when I read the Democrat Gazette's endorsement of Blanche Lincoln today. If you haven't seen it, it's worth buying the paper just for the read. You can access it online for free if you do so today (afterwards, it'll cost you about $2): http://www.ardemgaz.com/ShowIndex.asp?Section=Editorial
The editorial writer is so out of touch with Arkansans that he doesn't even realize how ridiculous he sounds-- lashing out at Jim for expressing the same views that the majority of people in this state also share.
But let's say you're one of those who believe just like those at the Dem-Gaz do. What do they offer as 3 great reasons to vote for Blanche?
1. She voted for a Medicare reform that the writer goes on to say "wasn't much of a reform".
2. She voted to confirm Leon Holmes-- an election year gimmick, as Holmes is from Arkansas and Senator Lincoln didn't want to risk upsetting the gentle masses so close to November 2nd. The rest of the time Lincoln, John Kerry, Tom Daschle, Ted Kennedy and others are busy filibustering the president's nominees to the bench. Lincoln voted 17 times to block Bush's conservative judges. Even the writer in today's editorial had to question why Lincoln would vote for Holmes but block Miguel Estrada, a judge who Lincoln helped filibuster for 2 years before Mr. Estrada withdrew his nomination.
3. And the third reason to vote for Lincoln: She's nice.
There you have it, folks. From the pages of the famed Arkansas Democrat Gazette: If you want to check activist judges, oppose the homosexual agenda, and eject false science like "Haeckel's Embryos" from your children's textbooks (the Texas legislature did so just months after Jim's bill to do the same was narrowly defeated), then your candidate is Senator Jim Holt.
If you want a "nice" person (according to media elitists) who votes according to election year cycles, then the Gazette recommends Blanche Lincoln. "
You can still help Senator Holt win - http://www.jimholt.us/donate2.htm
I would love to see her dethroned.
