It's illegal to cast a ballot in two states, but nobody's checking
In Orlando, Fla., early voters were hoping to avoid crowds. The rush, though, is already on there are so many early voters there are parking lot traffic jams.
But while Florida voters focus on this election, the front page of the local paper has more disturbing news about the last one.
A new study by the Orlando Sentinel says more than 68,000 Florida voters are also registered in Georgia or North Carolina and 1,650 of those actually voted twice in the 2002 or 2000 elections.
It is not a violation of the law to be registered in more than one state, but it is a felony to vote in two states in the same election. The problem is there's almost no chance of getting caught.

That's comforting.
Caught three people in Kansas CIty voting in two state....LARGE fines and/or prison time......Hope they make examples out of a few to get the message across.
Is Orlando a Republcian city??
They should check New York. There's probably many more that are registered in FL and NY as opposed to GA/NC and FL. It's the Northeastern liberal double voters that I'm worried about.
In this day and age - the tech. has to be there - where once they vote in one area or state - their name is put on a list nationwide - to prevent a second time from happening in the nation -
How hard can that be -
We seem to have idiots running everything in the U.S. lately -
The technology is there, it would take a very expensive, robust system though.
If that can be proven, every one of those people should be put in jail.
Gee...I wish I had known that last month...I could have rented a room in Georgia and registered there.ha.
Is there any way to check this stuff? How about after this election we have consistent national rules on voting?
Actually along with NY, check out ME/NH. I live near 495 in MA, and every spring you can see the campers and motor homes with FL plates headed north. Then in Oct they start heading south. It's really obvious. We're talking hundreds a day for a few weeks.
They tried it last time... will never happen unless it gets VERY bad this time, and I mean BAAAAD we're talking nation on the verge of destruction due to fraud and charges flying on both sides.
Agreed. This MUST be addressed. However, if the DIMS have anything to say about it, it won't happen as they have so much to lose by eliminating fraud. The apathy of about 1/2 of the country is yet another part of the problem.
On Fox - The Judge, as he is known - said, if I heard correctly, that all 50 states have laws in place on how to register - evidently these laws are not being followed - because a person cannot bring in hundreds of forms and drop them off - if the laws are followed - Someone can check this - and make sure I heard it right -
And these people who are offering a payment to people to go register someone - need to be stopped - if it takes another election law - then so be it - this invites fraud, in my opinion -
We have nationwide databases for just about everything else - I say it is time to have one for our election
process - to cut down on these people who own homes/property in more than one state from voting more than once -
Seems simple to me. Draw the .357 from the nightstand. BANG! Issue solved. Didn't cost the taxpayers one cent. Cost me about 22 cents. That's okay. I'm buyin'.
It is absolutely time to do this. And unless someone is out of the country, it would also eliminate a lot of absentee ballots.
We already have the database of everyone's SS#. It really shouldn't be that hard to accomplish.
We all know this election is going to turn into, or perhaps I should correct myself and say already has become, a three ring circus. Lawyers representing the democrats are already deliberately and without grounds filing suits causing resources and money to be spent needlessly and unduely alarming the american voter.
I plan on addressing this very issue with my representitives.
I think the national voter database could be a good idea.
However, wouldn't low-tech solutions work, too? In Afghanistan, they just put indelible ink on everyone's thumb after they voted. That would keep people from voting twice.
Of course, a necessary prerequisite would be to eliminate all this "early voting" nonsense, as well as the absentee ballots. I think the process should be brought back to the simple way of the past, in which you went down and voted in person.
ID's should also be mandatory. This is so obvious it's ridiculous.
Ink on the thumb would only work for those who actually went to the polls. Many voting by absentia today out of necessity.
