PORTLAND, Ore. A long-lost briefcase full of notes and lyrics that were intended for the 1981 U2 (search) album "October" (search) has been returned, 23 years after it was stolen at a Portland concert.
U2 frontman Bono made the announcement Wednesday during an appearance before the World Affairs Council of Oregon (search), saying the returned notes were "an act of grace."
Bono had to rewrite the "October" lyrics in the studio, and band members called it their worst recording experience. Though the record was generally well-received, it didn't earn the praise of the band's debut album, "Boy," or third album, "War."

Great, now U2 can finally make good music again.
At least one last album.

As far as I'm concerned 'October' was their only really good album. I think Bono would be better off improvising in the studio more based on the info. in this article.

I was really into U2 back in 1980 and had high hopes for them when The Joshua Tree was released...but then got disappointed by the Rattle & Hum film and lost interest in the group after Achtung Baby. Today, sadly, I can't stand 'em anymore.

Along with a barbacue sauce stained copy of Leaves of Grass... Considering who hands out copies of Leaves of Grass, you're lucky if it only has a barbacue sauce stain.

I liked Rattle & Hum's CD (as a high school freshman, it was pretty much the soundtrack to that awkward year). when I saw the movie, though, it was like "who cares?"

Bono and the rest of his commie ilk can go straight to hell.

Ever since "New Year's Day," I have wondered what prohibits U2 from using more than 35 individual words per song. And that count includes "a," "an," and "the."

Actually, the new single out "Vertigo" is very good and reminiscent of the early days before Bono decided to caterwaul on every CD track.

Is that the LP with "Gloria"? - one of only two U2 songs I like. (The other being "I Will Follow"). As far as Irish rock goes, gimme the Undertones every day!

I stood in the rain for six hours once waiting to get U2 tickets. I'll never do that again.

Actually, the new single out "Vertigo" is very good and reminiscent of the early days before Bono decided to caterwaul on every CD track. My wife got a copy of that song with her new iPod. I gave it a listen. It was close to the U2 I loved 24 years ago, but it's much more muddied than U2 used to be. It just didn't do it for me. : (

While I'm not in favor of every Bono cause, I don't think he's a Commie. You might want to remember that Bono & Jesse Helms seem to have a good friendship....
