You shouldn't be shocked. Sociologists refer to this generation as the "Millenial" Generation. (1980-2000), and many believe that they will be the next "Greatest Generation," similiar to the one that won World War II. Already that's coming true, with the number of young people volunteering for military service. Pat Tillman was a member of that generation.
These kids were raised during the Reagan administration, when family values came back into style. Along with family values came a respect for children. That wasn't true with the kids who grew up in my generation (Gen-X) 1960-1980. The Sixties may have been a great time for women's liberation, but not for kids. Roe v. Wade, etc.
Ironically, young woman today are rejecting abortion, much to their mothers' horror.
These kids are awesome, they're responsible, and they're smart.

I heard this same thing yesterday in a sermon given at our Presbytery meeting - seems to me it was sourced to a national publication, but I can't recall it at the moment. I think it might be true - based on some of the anecdotal evidence I have seen recently.
While running errands this afternoon, my six year old daughter was asking me questions about the election. I did my best to answer without using any "ugly" words and was dumbfounded at the level of insight and understanding she has on the subject. Maybe it is just indoctrination, but it didn't really sound like it - it sounded more like a child's un"jaded", naive and honest understanding of things - simple. basic. To me, that was very reassuring. I was at least relieved to know that my kids aren't being brainwashed in the public schools...but then again, we are in a RED state.
IF this is a trend and it continues...the DIMS will be out of power for a LONG time.
