I like to think I am fairly progressive when it comes to the role of women in society; but women DO NOT belong in combat.
BIG mistake.
I hope this is just some sort of political ploy by the Kerry camp. If it's true it's the most outrageous thing I've ever heard in my life. If we start breeding our girls to be sent to the slaughter then what will there be left in this country worth fighting for? Haven't all of our previous warriors gone overseas to fight to PROTECT our women and children back home? This is truly insane.
No women in combat.
No women in any incarnation of the draft, either.
I think men like the idea of protecting their women, and that most women like the idea of being protected by their men.
Then again, the d*ckless wonder males would probably disagree! :-)
I agree - women do not belong in combat - Aside from the obvious if they are captured (torture - rape etc) they simpley are not strong enough physically no matter what NAG and other women groups say - certain places and jobs should not be for women and combat is most definitely one of them
Whatever you or I think, it doesn't matter, because women have been in combat for the last year and a half that we have been in war. There is no such thing as a frontline in Iraqi or Afghanistan.
Our convoys and bases in Iraq are coming under attack every single day, and those convoys and bases have women in them. We are getting soldiers killed and wounded every day, and every so often one of those soldiers is a woman.
Before we can debate whether women belong there, we need to define just what combat is anymore. If you consider all of Iraq to be a combat zone (and that probably would be the proper classification) and said women shouldn't be there, then we are going to be hurting for troops.
